I'm with BT but the HomeHub I get from them isn't quite good, I'm looking for alternative router, which one do you recommend?

I use wired connection for computers, gaming consoles and wireless just for smartphones and laptops

What are your results here http://diagnostics.bt.com/login/?workflow=Speed which will show the actual connection speed to the exchange

Also router stats would be useful. Go to http://192.168.1.254/ > Settings (your password, if set. will be required) >Advanced Settings > Broadband >Connection
This will give Downstream/Upstream connection to the exchange), Line attenuation, Noise margin etc. all of which are useful to know
