Tori Amos v Kate Bush
Both Excellent in their own way but often compared to each other...
I love both - very talented singers and amazing songwriters. |

There is a thread on the comparison of these two. About 3-5 pages worth of posts.

I really like Kate Bush, there's nobody like her is there?
![]() I'm not a fan of Tori Amos though, I've just never been able to get into her music...perhaps I should give her another listen |

Kate Bush without question what she did for music as a whole directly influenced Tori, Pj Harvey, Bjork etc during the nineties her musical output has been nothing short of spectacular and she is one of the best Female musicians of all time whilst Tori is good she just does not compare.

Kate Bush wins it for me.
Tori has allowed some of her music to be remixed for the dance clubs which Kate has never done but that is not a bad thing. |

oooh wow - both are geniuses….
Tori Amos is perhaps one of the best pianists, solo live female performers and songwriter in modern mainstream/alternative music - complete genius. She is perhaps more rock orientated than Kate. Kate is perhaps one of the best vocalists , songwriters and producers of our time. She is perhaps more theatrical than Tori. Both are A grade singer, songwriters and artists with many talented brushes to their palette. Both are music changing eclectic ethereal and visceral artists. Inspirational. Tori Amos is perhaps underrated. Tori started out in the late 80s and early 90s. Kate started out in the late 70s. I only see their similarities in terms of both amazing upper register female vocals, singer/songwriters - kooky alternative piano. Oh and both being absolutely amazing! |

Considering the majority of Kate's music was released way before Tori was big and that this shows in the style of music one could argue that a comparison seems a bit invalid. Kate is more theatrical, less confessional/personal plus she never tours.
I do prefer Tori by a country mile if I had to say influence on my life. Of course Kate is great - maybe if I was 'there' when The Kick Inside or Hounds of Love came out I would say different. I would probably rank Kate as my third best after Tori and PJ Harvey (a woman who's ridiculously talented it's untrue although doesn't get talked about much on forums). |

I quite like Tori Amos, but sometimes I think she is trying a little bit too hard to be weird, and I never notice that with Kate Bush. I think it just comes naturally to her, and I appreciate that

Anyway personally for me it's Tori by someway. Kate's fine if your happy with some quality studio albums, but Tori actually performs her material, and she's a damn fine live act, which easily gives her the edge. |

Never got this comparison between Kate and Tori. I find Tori's music and singing more similar to Joni Mitchell than anyone else (and its debatable if Kate would've had the same kind of success without Joni bulldozing the way for female singer-songwriters to be taken as serious artists).
Kate is like a savant. She composed 'Man With the Child In His Eyes' when she was only thirteen and her debut is maybe one of the best debuts ever, considering her age. The way she was able to bounce back twice after being written off and in spite of that not absorbing any of the celebrity nonsense is astonishing to me. Most bragging idiots now (like Kanye and Gaga) would do well to learn from how understated she is as a person and an artist. On the other hand, I think Little Earthquakes and Under the Pink are more cohesive and raw works than any of Kate's albums and maybe took more courage to create, but Tori sort of entered a hit-or-miss period after that. |

They're both amazing but it's Tori for me. I have no words. I hate these kind of threads.

Amos for me. I like Kate Bush but find her music a little samey. There's just so much material from Amos, and it varies in styles so much. I actually think musically, Tori Amos is a genius.
