He could be just an older 8th Doctor. Moffat said himself that John Hurts Doctor has been around for a long time.

So wonderfully fitting that Moffat has taken it back to 'Bad Wolf'. Yes. We will get tributes to the rest of DW history but how beautiful to see Rose again and hark back to those amazing moments in Nines season. This looks beyond sensational!

One of the early rumours was that there were two versions of the script one where Eccleston had a small role the other a larger one.
It's possible the small role would have been a Post regeneration scene after Hurt's Doctor gets mortally wounded.
That's of course if Hurt is the Doctor, the trailer voice over from Matt and the fact he has his own version of the TARDIS certainly backs that up but I'm still thinking we may be being mislead.
His line about looking for the Doctor is a little odd if he is the Doctor himself.
Hmm....not really, he must know he survived the events and is looking for his future self......the laugh is he has found 2 of himself. He doesn't know what he looks like, and having traced himself wants to know which one is the Doctor, again they both are.
And I am still trying to work out how matt gets out of the timestream, the only thing I can come up with is a vortex manipulator, Strax, Vastra, Jenny are still standing in the tomb tardis.

We don't actually know if his line and Tennants line go together, they could be from totally different scenes.
Are those the skeletal frames of the top halves of Mechanoids in the background of the shot of John Hurt with the Moment?
I suspect they're really just random geodesic domes, but the return of the Mechanoids would be awesome! (If you're fighting the Daleks and have the resources of the Game of Rassilon at your disposal, why wouldn't you trawl the universe for possible allies?)

The problem is that in earlier multi Doctor stories, he always recognised his future self, it was also established that The Doctor can always recognise a fellow Timelord no matter what they looked like.

I agree. Even if they say he isnt the doctor because hes not its title its still a regenratiion so the same thing.
Was I the only one that was unimpressed. Id rather have Davison & Baker in the trailer.
