Anal sac adenocarcinoma in dogs
Jenny_Sawyer

I've been told by my vet that my 9 year old male springer spaniel has got this, does anyone have experience of this particular problem with their dog? My dog needs to have this tumour removed along with his right anal gland.

Jenny have a look at a site called dogsey, lots of folks there who are very knowledgeable about all sorts of health problems.

My dog has had a perianal adenoma, which is a hormone-related benign tumour just above the anus. I don't know if that's similar to what your dog has, but he had successful surgery for it, for what it's worth.

Glad to hear your dog is fine, unfortunately the tumour my dog has is not benign, it is classed as 'agressive'.

I'm so sorry to hear that. The prognosis will be different then, as I'm sure your vet has told you.
My dog wasn't neutered, (he is now) and it seems uncastrated dogs are more likely to get the benign type, and castrated ones the one your dog has. But I'm sure you have checked this out on the net, as I did. I also found out that Springers, Cockers and some of the Malamute types are more susceptible for some reason.
Hope you find someone on here, or elsewhere who has experience of this condition with their dog.

Our girl has an aggressive form of osteosarcoma, the best reference book I have is the dog cancer survival guide (recommended by one if our vets)

I got it off amazon, it's been a god send plus I get most of Cassie's supplements (krill oil, appocaps etc...) from there and she appears to be stable for now (tail waggy, ears up & no pain)

Good luck fingers and paws crossed for you x

Well it's turned out fine, he's been to the vets & stayed 2 nights, he had the tumour + his right anal gland removed, an ultrasound revealed that it has not spread, so now just antibiotics/pain killers to be administered & no off-lead activity for 2 weeks till stitches removed; my credit card has took one hell of a battering.......

Oh so glad about that Jenny, it must be a weight off your mind, now just need to spoil him rotten until he is better !

That's such good news. I wish him a speedy recovery. The credit card might take a bit longer!
