Sometimes the Android user interface is really fast and responsive, but when first started it seems to decide to check for and download updates to apps. This seems to get priority and the user interface basically becomes totally unresponsive.

Is there a way that I can get it to check for, but not download updates to the apps or OS and simply notify me instead? I could then manually download and install the updates when it is a more convenient time.

Is there an option to schedule the update check, download, install at a specific time. Windows can do it on shutdown, but I am not very familiar with how Android works.

Perhaps there might even be a way to give the user interface priority over the background processes. Any one got any suggestions, thanks?

Just open the Play store, go to settings and turn off Auto-update and maybe even notifications.
There will be lots of other stuff like location services hidden in normal settings.

BTW I think there is a Rom update just recent. I have no idea if that is auto.

Also, check all other apps for their update settings, I ted to turn that all off, things like the BBC news app for example.

Agree - I NEVER allow auto-updates because I like to check the permissions and sometimes the devs sneak new ones in with updates

Also there's not switching it completely off of course as I assume to OP is talking about booting-up and not waking from sleep mode?
