I overheard a conversation this morning that went something like this :

1) OMG did you see those pictures? What on earth was she thinking?

2) Yuk - disgusting, and that Julien bloke - he designed it!

3) Call that a design? I guess she just wore it to make sure she got some publicity before tonight's show.

4) Yeah well, wrong publicity if you ask me. I've voted for her every week, but after those pix I won't be voting for her again.

etc etc etc

Were these 2 old dears perhaps, not quite so open minded as the younger generations?

Nope - they were 2 teenagers (a girl and a boy about 14yrs) voicing their disapproval of pictures of Abbey Clancy wearing one of Julien's "creations" in today's paper. I got the kids to show me the photos and had to agree they were not pretty!

Fourteen! I am not surprised they were disgusted. The thought of flesh and sex and people touching is UGH to many young teens (despite the tabloids promoting the image of them all having rampant sex).

Yeah well I'm considerably older than 14 and I found them disgusting as well. The sort of dress that should never be allowed out of a bedroom!

"Cheap Katie Price stunt" came to my mind too.

Obvious punishment for staying in longer than Julien.

Really though, I've seen more nakedness on couture fashion runways, and she was there to be a clothes hanger for Julien for that specific dress. It could have been a more classier design but that's on Julien. Abbey is a model after all despite what some think.

Is this the OAP thread?

The dress has gauze sides if you didn't know so she isn't undressed.

Lighten up, please.

It was this kind of thing that made me dubious about a WAG appearing on Strictly but I have really warmed to Abbey as the series has gone on. There is nothing necessarily wrong in wearing skimpy clothing of your own volition but doing it as a publicity stunt seems a bit tacky and desperate and it is an ill-advised tactic if Abbey wants to win votes.

Dress is patriotic, but tacky. And so very expensive.

Publicity stunt? It is an annual charity event; can you imagine the raking Abbey would have got if she'd turned it down?

Didn't realise that any lightening up was needed. Just folk expressing their opinion on a rotten dress, which IMO made a stunning girl look cheap and quite vulgar.

The dress was designed for a charity fundraiser to help injured soldiers. Julien might have arranged for Abbey to wear his dress long before she appeared in the bottom two last weekend so I think it's a bit unfair to automatically assume she's doing it for publicity! She's a model and is probably used to wearing even less than that!!

There were loose threads hanging off the hem too (unless that was part of the design, which wouldn't make it better anyway) Tacky and badly made. I like Abbey but that dress makes her look cheap. Julian should have come up with something better than that.

Don't worry dear, I didn't believe anything to the contrary, despite the fact you had to hide behind a couple of 'fourteen year olds' before being brave enough to express your disgust.

It's not the dress. Before Strictly started my perception of Abbey was as one of those slightly desperate Katie Price-type celebrities but her appearance on the programme was changing my opinion of her. This kind of cheap tactic (and it is a 'vote for me' tactic) makes me think she is kind of lowbrow after all.

That's not Abbey's fault, as a professional model she has to wear what she's given.

Of course she didn't have to wear it. She choose to. She was perfectly entitled to say no and Julien McDonald could have gotten someone else to wear his monstrosity of a gown (I use the word lightly!!)

It was Julien design, she wore it as a model. If that's the case there's plenty of models engaging in Jordan-esque publicity stunts at designer after parties all around the world.

I get the hesitance over wag culture and Abbey's part in it, but this is a case I find comments like this rather unfounded. The blame lies on Julien's design, not on Abbey wearing it as his muse for charity.

I saw a lovely picture of Abbey in Boots today high above the displays - for Marc Jacobs' (very expensive and chic) DAISY perfume. Take a look next time you are down that way.

She must have a contract with Jacobs - and, make no mistake, he'd soon give her the boot if she projected a Katie Price image!

I can't believe it wasn't a collaborative decision on what she was going to wear. It was meant to grab headlines for the charity and for Abbey but it has cast her back in the mold of tabloid-fodder model rather than Strictly celeb. A misfire on her part if she wants people to rethink her image.

And like I said chavvy, can you imagine the "Strictly Abbey REFUSES to model dress designed in support of BRITISH TROOPS" headlines if she had turned down the gig.

This thread fair reeks of desperation

It's highly likely it wasn't. She's the model, he's the designer. There's the hierarchy for you.
