How are the dances chosen.

Hi.
How are the dances chosen each week. Is it the produces or professionals?.

I've always wondered this, I thought producers until recently.

That's what seems most likely but it is so open to fixing by the producers.

ISTR reading that the producers determine the dance order for all the couples at the outset of the series.

Then how do they choose the songs, particularly for themed weeks?

I'd also be interested to know if the pros have 100% control over their choreography and the theme of their dance. If they do then Iveta and I are going to have a falling out

These Are the sort of questions I wish Zoe would deal with on ITT

I read somewhere that the dresses are made well in advance, to cover the whole series so it must be known what dances are going to be performed months in advance.

Yes - seems to me fixing is involved - for example - why did Mark have to a Rumba last night?

Nicky Byrne was the only male who did one last year, and again it was early in the series.

Paul Daniels got eliminated on a Rumba in week 3 - series 8, but that was in the days when everybody did one of two dances.

Aside from the very later weeks (presumably when they have learned enough to handle the dance) male scores for Rumba are pretty pants.

Seems like a good way for producers to get rid of a male when they want to.

I wish Zoe would cover these kind of questions on ITT too.

Good question. I'm also curious . Some pros seem to have a lot of say in what dances they would like to get it over with like Brendan.

Though the dancers can give a note to the costume designers for a chance in colour of the dress (vicky gill mentioned on itt that Kristina wanted a pink dress one week).

As for music choices, the pro's deliver the correct tapes to the musicians (of the strictly band), but it is unclear if they have chosen that music or were given a list from the producers.

I can't imagine Anton would have chosen Song 2 for his paso I like the song but it was very jarring and not pleasant in that setting.

Sophie and Brendan this year are the biggest hint, IMO, that the pros have some say. Sophie is clearly stronger in Ballroom and Latin- and so in week 3 still riding of the success of the Charleston- Brendan picked the Samba- the dance he is famed for going out on, and got rid of it in week 3 when the likes of Vanessa, Dave and Julien were all still at their wretched worst!
Then, after their glorious Foxtrot, he picks the highly energetic Cha Cha, which would otherwise have pushed Sophie to really perform (which she's not strong at!) and then in Halloween week, he gets rid of the notoriously tricky-on-all-fronts Jive in the middle of the themed week! If it's the producers choosing then Sophie's just been very very lucky indeed!

Also, when Audley and Natalie were in the competition a few years ago, weren't they supposed to do a Samba and then Natalie changed it to a Quickstep?
