I sometimes wonder if the pros ever think of sitting their celeb partners down in front of dvds - or youtube - and showing them what the various dances should look like. I'm sure if they could get a picture in their mind it would help them interpret their own dances.

Oh yes he was, like really, bit embarrassed for you

That always puzzles me when dancers (and some pros even) don't seem to get what the dance is about - just go on youtube for a bit - and wikki, it ain't rocket science.

I wondered from the start how Mark was going to get out of the chair .... rather inelegantly.

She seemed to be showing real empathy with Mark over the first few weeks - that such empathy might have simply evaporated makes me somewhat suspicious. ”

What does TPTB mean?

I agree; I wish he & Iveta would ditch this aspect. But I wonder to what extent the production team are pushing them in this direction each week for the 'entertainment value'? Also, rumba is a horrible dance for celeb men at the best of times, but when you're Mark's shape I can imagine he might feel even more vulnerable and exposed - so hiding inside a character might have given him a measure of protection? But I still think they judged it wrong.

Unfortunately he would probably look even less like Christopher Lee as Francisco Scaramanga.

At least there was a Bond connection

Was he the one with three nipples?

Could have made a bit of a feature.

I beg to differ. I double checked IMDB cast list for Goldfinger and see no mention of the character. On Wiki,it lists the JB films and novels he was in and no Goldfinger. But hey, if I'm definitely wrong then I hold my hands up

The pros will know what the 10 standard dances are all about, but won't necessarily have danced AT, AS or Charleston.

While the celebs will probably have some idea what a waltz, foxtrot or tango looks like, they may never even have seen a rumba or samba, or even heard of a paso doble! As you say wikki can explain what a dance is about, but more importantly youtube can show them what it is meant to look like.

The sad thing is he is capable of so much more, but they still want him to act the buffoon, albeit a calmer one this week, but still out of place, let the guy dance....! Please...!

I gave him a vote as well.... he is much better than that dance.....
and, as others have said on here, I wonder how much Iveta's choreography is limited by what TPTB tell her they want to see...

Sums it up for me . I thought he was a bit ridiculed tonight with the odd sniggers you could hear from the audience too .Think Iveta's choreography has really gone downhill, for him at least ,last couple of weeks . Threw him a vote too .

Yes that was Scaramanga.
Quote:
“Scaramanga is the Bond villain from ''The Man with the Golden Gun'' and the title character. He was raised in a travelling circus and was a spectacular trick-shot artiste by his teens, when he discovered how much he enjoyed killing people after murdering a policeman.
…
He has a third nipple a "superfluous papilla or mammary gland" next to his left one. In some cultures it is seen as a potent symbol of sexual prowess and invulnerability. Scaramanga only has sex before a kill and fetishises his gun in the act. His (latest) girlfriend, Andrea Anders, has come to fear and hate him, and uses his obsession with Bond to try to rid herself of Scaramanga.”

Ernst Stavro Blofeld was the baldy (sometimes) with the white pussy, as has been mentioned, he wasn't in the film "The Man with the Golden Gun" though.

When they didn't have a picture of Mark on the dress rehearsals I KNEW he was going to be bald & my heart sank from that point. He would have been so much better in a tux & his hair under control. I hope they are safe & get it right next week

I was very disappointed with Mark's rumba. It was always going to be a tough dance for a man of his bulk, and I guess Iveta did what she could by giving him a character that would be memorable, even if his dance moves weren't.

But where in previous weeks I've felt Mark made a real effort to get the moves right, he could have done a lot more with this rumba. As one of the judges (Darcey?) pointed out, he should have been in perpetual motion, not stopping every now and then (why? to feed the cat? empty its dirt tray? I think we should be told).

Such a shame, but I think Mark may be in danger. I wouldn't be surprised to see him and Fiona in the dance-off.

Along with others, I spent his whole dance perplexed as to why he was dressed as a completely irrelevant Bond villain. Surely either dress as Bond or dress as Goldfinger, not as a character from a different movie. Just bizarre.

You are right. Blofeld was not in Goldfinger. The look they were going for was Donald Pleasence who played Blofeld in You Only Live Twice. Unfortunately it looked terrible and we got the parody version which was Dr Evil from Austin Powers!
It was terrible and looked too jokey which detracted from the dance. They should have left the dressing up box alone.

If they are safe & at the moment my heart says they won't be, then I hope they get a ballroom

It's a male celeb doing a Rhumba. They are always embarrassing if you can't pull them off and in general I would pay good money not to see them. Good flexibility seems to be a requirement for any rhumba and Mark has zero flexibility. He actually wasn't as bad as I thought he might be, nor as bad as Dave will be.

Would anyone else like to see rhumbas taken out of the show or replaced with real rhumbas that actually used to be danced on a night out? (so I'm told)
