I'm lookijg for some newish Christmas songs from the last 10 years. Not the Mariah Carey / The Pogues stuff but some new songs.

I have been introduced to Trans Siberian Orchestra who do Christmas songs.

Suggestions?

Not a new one but here's an unheard classic...

Corrie's Percy Sugden - "Don't Forget The Old Folks At Christmas

http://blogfiles.wfmu.org/DP/2007/12...ont_Forget.mp3

I used to have it on 7", from the cheapo box!

There's shedloads of great new songs from the past 10 years that aren't retreads!
Here's 10 lesser known non-traditional Christmas songs I'll be playing this year. Spread across genres, so you'll probaly not like all of them:
# Jimmy Hall – Santa For a day
# Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings - Ain't No Chimneys In The Projects
# The Automatics - Almost Christmas Day
# Ronnie Spector - Best Christmas Ever
# Flamin Lips - Change At Christmas (Say It Isn't So)
# Ry Cooder - Christmas In Southgate
# The Used - Alone This Holiday
# Wiley - Cheer Up It's Christmas
# The Come Ons - Christmas Lights Of Blue
links are easy to find.

and lastly, I really like this new offering. Traditional stuff, presses all the cliche buttons, but refreshingly light and airy, and puts a grin on the face. Should come with a free snowfall and mistletoe
# Mulled - A Perfect Christmas http://mulled.bandcamp.com/

I really can't wait to dig out my Christmas music. Got it all on a memory card inside my mp3 player waiting to go.

Good to see Christmas Tree by Lady Gaga there. It's been one of my favourite taking the mick ever so slightly go-to tracks for Christmas.

However, my favourite Christmas track from the last few years is definitely 'December Song (I Dreamed of Christmas)' by George Michael. I liked it straight away when I heard it, made a point of watching the X Factor when he performed it live, and the sample from 'The Christmas Waltz' by Frank Sinatra at the beginning would have been enough to suck me in. In my opinion it's one of his best performances.

Love that one too. She did a great version that stayed true to the original by Connie Francis, but it sounded current(ish) as well. Was disappointed that it only got to number 22 but that's our charts for you!

There is a sense that christmas songs are not released with the regularity as in the past. Certainly not new material. A lot of them of cover versions.

I don't know why. It's about time new ones were released. I'm sick of hearing Slade, Wizzard, Cliff Richard and all the other old ones all the time. They might be classics but they do get a bit boring.

Do you not think that is radio's fault though? Maybe I am wrong, but they don't seem to support new Christmas songs all that much, I'm hoping this year is different and both Kelly and Leona's new songs get played.

It probably is. They seem to want to play only the old ones and never support any new ones  It's a shame really.

Never mind.
I'll be posting a daily list of great Christmas songs in a new thread, chronologically since 1950, from 1st December.
Great song standards will be mentioned, of course, and there'll be links to less common stuff.
Reggae, blues and other genres will have their own posts as well.

Let's wallow

I'd suggest buying Kelly Clarkson's christmas album. 5 new songs on it and they're all awesome. Wrapped In Red, Underneath The Tree, Every Christmas, Winter Dreams and 4 Carats. You'll have them stuck in your head for days.
