It's more a point to the traditional X factor voter and a lot of comments that the younger female acts normally get.
The voter need to identify with the female acts or it's very difficult to get the votes. You come across as less threatening to the voter as an older female. Something tamera is struggling with If she was fifteen years younger I doubt she would be as popular and praised so much |

Older woman? Isn't she only 35/36? !!
She wouldn't get any praise if she was rubbish. |

Perhaps it's because she's actually a good singer, who knows how to sell a song.

It's not only because she's older; Tesco Mary never really got the love of kids, hello. It's because there's a certain youth about her. If you watch the video diaries on the show's YouTube channel, there is something lovely and fun about her that makes her get along with the younger contestants (see: the Boys).

Of course! I'm gonna be brutally honest here.
![]() She's not deemed a threat by young women, not a teenage boys fantasy, loved by the older audience as she's relatable in style of singing and stage presence. Typical XF fodder. I just can't see her having that much success outside of the show. Some here are so deluded, they never learn. Mary Byrne was very similar to Sam. Yet she's nowhere now. Sam is the peoples favourite as she didn't come into the show looking "polished" that's why Cher Lloyd, Misha B, Tamera now too are getting told they're not "showing emotion" blah blah. The UK public loves an act that they can watch develop overtime. Not a ready made pop star. |

I would imagine she wasn't the same person 15-20 years ago. Some of these contestants are only children really- Tamera's mother must be around the same age as Sam, if not younger.
She stilll has a wonderful voice and nice demeanour though. I think confidence is more accepted from the overs in a ' she's earned it/ worked up to it' kind of way. Wheras with the youngsters, it's seen as cocky and a quick way to fame. That has alot to do with this 'celebrity lifestyle' that's so pushed to the fore nowadays in the UK though. People just want to tear them down- especially the girls! |
