They also manage to avoid clashing with the Simon Cowell Show on ITV, I can't imagine ITV being happy about moving that if Strictly ran longer.
If they had the results programme later in the evening then I suspect they would start to get complaints from parents about young children wanting to stay up late.
As has been written, they get better value for money with two programmes at little extra cost whereas a live show on Sunday evening would be very expensive.
I would think the majority of viewers don't even think about Sunday's programme being recorded on Saturday. Just look at the recent Bake Off final, they managed to record the final many months ago and keep the result secret despite lots of speculation in the media and there having been many people at the recording.
