They should dump the DO. Despite potential problems with the public vote it balances out in the end. It causes as many injustices as it solves as proven in the past.

It's been this way since series 4 or 5.”

Dance off takes 10 minutes. Reading the results out takes a further 5 minutes. The remaining 25 minutes of the Sunday night results show is filler.

The BBC could quite easily juggle the Saturday Night schedule to accommodate a 15 minute show. Actually they could probably juggle it to fit in a half an hour show and keep some of the filler

Doesnt seem to be any poin t in making a complaint. The mods must be on holiday. I have reported and re reported the three threads I came across with this stupid COLGIRL posting the result. Whether it is wrong or right makes no difference it breaks the rules.
Wish the moderators would wake up and get her off the board

I wouldn't call the pro routines filler. Clearly an awful lot of people enjoy watching them and the show would be poorer without them. The guest performance? I'm 50/50 on that although it obviously fits in with the light entertainment aspect of the show.

Not very easily tbh. You can't put the family drama show on too late for its target audience. Match of the Day is contractually obliged to start by a certain time so can't be bumped back. They have to fit the news in before that. The only realistic way of doing it would be to dump Casualty entirely which considering it is now a Saturday night staple and has been for years wouldn't be a great move.

Even then the results show would be going out after 9pm which is too late for the audience it's aimed at.

It also leaves them with a honking great big gap in their Sunday schedule.

Excellent point,davethorp.

Just glancing over the schedule for next week, cancel the 16:30 repeat of A Question of Sport. Bring everything else forward half an hour possibly swapping the news and the repeat of the best bits of CIN. Insert half hour results show after Atlantis

Problem solved

There was always a pro routine in the Sat results show.

Spoiled it for me.

I am annoyed.

I think if they can really help it the schedulers don't want to start the show that early. 6pm is a bit too early for Strictly tbh which it understandable - people are still having dinner, still getting in from the shops etc.

Also still doesn't help their issue with the big hole in the Sunday schedule. Interestingly, most non-BBC shows of this nature have a separate results show the day after. Also the Sunday results show rates much higher than the old Saturday one did so seems to be they're giving the majority of the audience what they want.

Well the gap can be filled by moving Countryfile back into the 7pm slot it occupied prior to the launch of Strictly and we could put the Question of Sport episode I cancelled on Saturday night on before Countryfile to fill in the gaps.

The only reality show I can think of that has its results on a different night is the X Factor and it's still live. BGT, DOI and The Voice have the results live on the same night as the main show and Big Brother has its results either live or marginally time shifted on the night they take place as well

I suspect Bruce is one of the reasons why the results show is shown on Sundays. Bruce does the main show, then goes home while Tess and Claudia film the results show. Having the results show on Sunday gives the appearance that they recorded the two shows separately, so it doesn't look odd that he isn't taking part. If they moved the results show back to Saturday, it would look really strange to have Bruce in the first part and not in the second. This may not be the whole reason, but I suspect it's a fairly large contributing factor.

Hard to avoid when you get some idiot posting the spoiler as a thread title.

All of us who manage and contribute to the spoiler thread were up in arms over the results being leaked this way.

I don't.
When the info is in a thread title it is hard to miss though.

I've come on here every Sunday and this is the first time I've known the result.

The reason for the result show on Sunday is ratings. Moving Strictly to an earlier slot affected their ratings as well as the Sunday show gives the bbc good ratings on a Sunday where they are behind itv for the rest of the day with X-factor and Downton Abbey. And people complained that the result show was on too late that why it was moved to Sunday in the first place.

If you want to see what strictly would be like without a proper result show look at dwts in USA at the minute it's a mess

And as for no dance off look at last week Abbey would have gone home & so would Patrick - two weeks ago

Strictly is nothing without its pros and without the result show we wouldnt have pro numbers. Wish we had more pro numbers especially when pros has already left the competition.

Totally agree. Like thousands of other viewers ( I suspect), I record the programme so I can fast forward through... the Brucie bits, the amusing video story bits, the standing ovation bits, the post-dance interview bits and the recap. On Sunday I FF through the guest singers, the tediously drawn-out selection bits and increasingly this series the professionals' dance, which I used to like. Though I do like Len's Lens

It means I usually miss out on the voting, but I'll pay that price not to suffer the excruciating waffle and padding that clads the dances like fat round certain contestants' internal organs.

I might be the only one thinking this but...please don't make Strictly any earlier, I work on a Saturday and I just about make it home in time for 6.30pm

Someone was banned last week for posting the result in a thread title, I wonder if this was the same person back under another name.

I can only assume they enjoy seeing people saying how upset they are about seeing the spoiler. There are a few sad people who seem to come online purely to upset other people.

I go on the official spoiler thread every week because I want to know before I watch the results show. Seeing a spoiler in a thread title still upsets me, because I know that it's going to spoil the results show for some people.

It would be nice if the mods could give some extra attention to the SCD board on Sundays when idiots tend to post spoilers in title threads.

Luckily for me i came on the forum too late on Sunday to see the offending thread which had spoiled the anticipation for so many people.
I still came across the result accidentally though by clicking on a link in a different thread to see Abbey in a dress designed by Julien Mcdonald. It was on the Daily Mail site and i saw the result at the side in the other stories available.
It was obviously not intentional by whoever put the link up but has learnt me a lesson to scrupulously avoid links too until after the results show.

They also manage to avoid clashing with the Simon Cowell Show on ITV, I can't imagine ITV being happy about moving that if Strictly ran longer.

If they had the results programme later in the evening then I suspect they would start to get complaints from parents about young children wanting to stay up late.

As has been written, they get better value for money with two programmes at little extra cost whereas a live show on Sunday evening would be very expensive.

I would think the majority of viewers don't even think about Sunday's programme being recorded on Saturday. Just look at the recent Bake Off final, they managed to record the final many months ago and keep the result secret despite lots of speculation in the media and there having been many people at the recording.

I'm giving this forum a miss until after next Sunday's result show.
It only takes one idiot to spoil things for others.
