What kind of dances would you vote for bringing in?
Maybe an after the watershed topless? Maybe not cos poor old Brucie might have a heart attack or something?

The lindyhop and the jitterbug

I suggest Contemporary Dance. There are some beautiful, artistic, moving, lyrical dances on YouTube. Louis Smith would be a wonderful exponent, as would Chelsee Healey, as fluidity of movement is vital.

I would like to go back to the 5 main ballroom and Latin dances please

Leave the Argentine Tango and AS to the semi final

Drop the salsa

I agree but I'd drop the Charleston as well. Keep the "fun" for the showdance.

No.

They did Lindy Hop once, it was dreadful.

(Lindy Hop and Jitterbug are the same dance, really)

Loowiss Smith doing contemporary dance?
In the spirit of Dave Myers,I would walk 500 miles....in the other direction.

Against the jazz, contemporary, lindyhop, mambo, even Charleston.....I like these dances but I don't want them to see on strictly, a ballroom competition/entertainment show .
Keep the 10 style of dances and yesssss to the Argentine Tango

But the AT should be introduced in the later stages, like the quarter or semi finals.

I like the way they have it now - the 10 standard dances plus 4 "speciality". Without any Fusion weeks, each finalist should have danced all of them.

I don't like the idea of adding dances - when I look at DWTS it just seems too modern (for want of a better word) with all the Contemporary, Country etc.

Exactly the same here, olive (hi lovely, btw! Hope you're well!) and would also drop the Charleston.

I've never loved Artem more than when he said he thought the Charleston was a 'silly dance'!

Oh please not contemporary! Anything would be preferable to that.

I find it the most boring, tedious, cringeworthy type of dance imaginable.

The routines all look the same (lots of dramatic leaps and the man catching the woman), they always wear the same boring costumes (plain coloured open shirt for the male with black trousers, simple short floaty dress in a matching colour for the female, and of course they MUST be barefoot), and it's supposed to be all melancholic and sincere and moving, but the hilariously anguished expressions just make it laughable.

And the theme is always something diabolical like "show the journey of a relationship". It looks like some kind of hideous exercise dreamt up by a counsellor "to get you in touch with your feelings again."

I'm no expert on dance of course, but whenever I see contemporary on other shows I just CRINGE CRINGE CRINGE!

I agree, the rumba is really dull.

But mostly, I think the selection of dances on Strictly is fine as it is, and doesn't need messing with.

It was Julien's first dance, wasn't it?

I love contemporary dance when it is danced well, and I wouldn't agree that it all looks the same. However it is not right for strictly imo. It's too difficult to pick up the technique and when it's not done right it looks so messy.

I'm not a fan of the Lindy, Jitter or Rock and Roll. I don't even really like the Charlston and only tolerate it because it's survived its introduction to the show (but I wouldn't be sad if it suddenly made an exit). At the end of the day, we want dances that the Pros can teach, and I don't think we need to add to the ones they don't always have much experience of before Strictly (like with the A.T or the Salsa, or Latin generally in Anton's case).

I think SYTYCD or Got to Dance are good for showing a huge range of dancing disciplines becasue the format suits it, whereas I think Strictly does fine for what it has already (considering it's format). We sometimes see abit of contemp dancing in the Pro numbers nowadays, and that's enough for me.

I'd love to see other dances like the ones mentioned except for one thing - they're danced best by younger people, so it wouldn't be fair.

I'd too would much rather we went back to the 10 dances, with everyone dancing all the dances and alternating Ballroom and Latin in the early weeks. As already said, save the AT until the semis to be danced by the good dancers that are still in the competition.

Judging by the new pros though, the show is going the other way - apparently only Aljaz is a Ballroom specialist.

I love this post so much!

I'm happy with all the dances, I just wish they would concentrate on getting basic steps and shaping looking great than doing a dance that doesn't even look like what they are suppose to be dancing! There's too much emphasis on lifts and flamboyant posing.
