Ignore Feature on Digital Spy

One of the major problems with this forum is a result of pseudonyms / handles. I find in fora where everybody uses real or realistic names everybody is generally a lot more polite and also slower to take offence.

But on this forum there is the "Ignore" feature.

Rather than get habitually cross with somebody, just ignore them.

My list now contains a dozen of the usual suspects and I have just added one who has been rude or sarcastic to a few people today. I was about to reply to one such post but remembered the ignore feature. Much better than getting involved in a forum war.

Of course feel free to add me if I annoy you. All for an easy life.

This is how you do it.

Click on the names of the people you wish to ignore on the left hand side of their post.

Click View Public Profile on the drop down box.

In the middle there is a blue band with white script.

On the right is a link "Add *** to your Ignore List"

Add him or her to your list and Save.

Life now so much more peaceful as you won't get annoyed with them ever again.

Job done.

You may want to change the title of your thread, since it sounds like an instruction.

It was pithy - but done.

Poeple always read posts that are entitled "Ignore"

Thanks for this useful information.

But - er - it doesn't seem to work.

Is there a way that an ignored poster can get around this?

Thanks

I hope they invent the Ignore Thread button. DS will win an award!

The Ignore function is useful, but would be even more so if thread titles from Ignorees were also hidden as well as the contents of their posts.

The only problem with the "ignore" feature is that their posts if quoted by someone else, appear on the thread.

I've only one "persistent poster" on my ignore list, recently added, simply because he makes so many posts which are repetitive in content and completely uninteresting. However the facility does for me, dramatically reduce the lengths of threads on which he posts.

Agree about being able to ignore threads too might be useful.

However, I can still see this person's posts. I suspect I know why - it could be a flaw in the system - but am reluctant to write it here in case it helped others to do the same if I'm right.

Is there anything else I can try, apart from writing to the MODs who do seem to have been very busy of late?

E.T.A.

I think I've solved the problem - it didn't work the way the OP suggested but seems to have by going to my own Control Panel to do so.

I LOVE IT

I have quite a few people here on my ignore list but I hate the fact that when some people quote them, I still can see their messages, Urghhh !!!
I wish there was a way to avoid that .
But, other than that, it is working like a charm .

Hmm..

Reviewing a few of my posts....made when I was "outside" most of a good bottle of Chardonnay, "I'm thinking of putting myself on 'ignore.'"

You have to have a sense of humour to survive on DS.

Do you see the posts even when you're logged in? Oh, no, I see you've fixed it.

At one point, years ago, before I grew a double-thick skin, I had 20 or 30 on ignore. When I logged in, half of every thread disappeared. Bliss!

These days I don't bother. I opened the cage and all my little ignorees flew free. I figure I'll cope... just about...

Personally I don't think I could ever ignore a fellow human being, it would make me feel as though I have no self worth, and I would not like the feeling of being mean spirited and petty to a fellow human being, after all we are all one of Gods special little people.

This sounds like a good time for a - 'Terry Thought For The Day'

'Never ignore a person who loves you, cares for you and misses you, because one day, you might wake up and realize that you lost the Moon while counting the stars.

Stars have feelings too.

I agree with the gist of what you're saying (minus the blether about God's special elves ). Even if I don't agree, or decidedly disagree, with a poster, they've a right to say it out loud.

I'll report racists, fascists, thugs and others of that ilk, but apart from the extremes, most people are interesting if you give them a chance

Maybe something to do with cookies (is the usual answer to such a problem)

It works for me.

I found this

You may add any member of the forums to your buddy list by viewing their profile or by going to "Buddy / Ignore Lists" in your "User CP".

EDIT

I see you have fixed it.

What is the buddy list for, do you know? I've never seen anyone refer to it or found a use for it… I'd fill up my buddy list in no time at all if I could only think of a reason to do it.

I agree the Moon and stars all have feelings, even the playground bullies we encountered at school had feelings too.

I find that the threads to ignore usually have very long titles so easy to spot, ignore and move on.

Here you are Pet

The buddy list is used to keep track of the friends you have made on this forum. By going to your "Open Buddy List" in "Quick Links" menu of the navbar, you'll be able to see which of your friends are currently online and send them a private message.

Do you mean the ones with a lot of the words of the title in capital letters?

"I think I may have noticed one or two."

However the ignored posts, can turn up on pretty much any thread.

I just look at the length. If it takes up most of the window I move on.

Well I'm still here - so far - aren't I? And I do give people many many chances.

That's what I did last year but am fed up with all the bird droppings at the moment!

I'm "only responding to let you know you aren't the one on my 'ignore' list."

But I guess you knew that anyway.
