Well, mine's a name from a character in a "film noir" which I've used for over fifteen years on various sites.
Where tag lines of your choice are automatically added to messages on some boards, mine has one of the same character's lines from that film.

I don't like 'em myself, they're pretty bad.
I grieve over them on long winter evenings."


Some on here may say that suits my personality. The more knowledgeable, understand the reference. I don't mind either way.

I always use my real name or realistic names. A feminine one for mumsnet of course - just for market research of course

I find that I write a lot freer and looser when not using my real name. So I have to watch it.

Names. I like to observe rather than be seen doing things with the crowd in real life, so I am an observer (thus my screen name).

This is Martha Vickers, who would have stolen the film from Lauren Bacall, but by the time the film was released towards a couple of years after it was made, Bogart and Bacall were married, so to promote the film and Bacall, much of Vicker's contribution was reportedly, "left on the cutting room floor." For the crowd? Nah, I do a service for the crowd, I supposed, but quietly so. I was a school photographer when we didn't have a photographic society. Started it after convincing my art teacher about it, and then I just recorded images upon images. My contribution to the 'society' I supposed.

The fact that it' s only a programme is precisely why I ignore some...what time I do spend discussing it I wish to be as productive and constructive as it can, which means cutting out quite a bit of detritus.

Besides, several of my "ignores" are via other fora, particularly Politics and GD.

I post on two golf forums, and quite a few of the FMs are members on both.

The one where they use their real names ( which also give details of their golf club so are easily traceable) is a lot more toxic than the one where we can hide behind usernames.

Yes, because though you are a 'fan' of lots of individual dancers / dances, you keep a wide view of everything that goes on on the forum -- it doesn't escape you (often to your own peril ). I can always see the other persons point of view, but it won't change mine.
You can get into protracted "yes it is, no it isn't."
So "ignore" is useful tool for "persistent irritants."

No they haven't a clue, so they can get a bit repetitive if they think you aren't responding.

I play a lot of golf, usually three times a week if it ain't raining, I guess I'm about an average club player, but I wouldn't want to talk about it outside our club. In fact over lunch, we'll tell someone to shut up if they kept bangin' on about it. It's just a game and when it's over, it's over.
