Recently on a points of view programme the subject of audience clapping along to the dances came up. The BBC replied to the comment about this by saying they didn't encourage it but both the band and dancers liked it. I've always suspected the clapping was whipped up deliberately as are standing ovations but it's a question that can only be answered by someone who has been to a show?

They do encourage the audience to show enthusiasm, sometimes to the detriment of the performance if the dancers can't hear the band clearly or the audience are clapping out of time.

Clapping, cheering, whooping and standing ovations are all actively encouraged by floor managers creeping around the audience in the dark and pouncing on unsuspecting audience members (me) when they are "not clapping loud enough"

The BBC seem to be lying on all counts . How can the dancers like it when it's so offputting when you're trying to get the beat of the dance from the music . The band are pros and following their scores, so makes no difference to them .

I hate the senseless, non stop clapping and from what I gather so do most people.

No idea!!!!!!!! I don't think clapping thro the dance is right, its def off putting when trying to hear the beat, not only for the dancers but the singers too - I remember Hayley mentioned the off beat clapping in one of her blogs! She said it was very off putting when trying to sing when people don't clap to the beat

I want to know who encouraged the audience to clap on the "wrong" beat in the opening number of the results show?

Thanks for those answers, it seems the BBC were being a bit economical with the truth in saying they in no way encouraged this behaviour. As a viewer I find it annoying, can't imagine having to battle to sing against out of time clapping or worse try and dance to it.
