They could reduce the problem of abstaining by making it so a judge cannot vote the following week if they abstain. Some judges may still abstain, but it would reduce it a lot.

I wish they wouldn't do that. Such a cop-out.

Was Cheryl the first judge ever to abstain?

Cheryl, Gary and Sharon have all done it too. I think Louis has too.
Remember when Simon sent his own act over another judges contestant

Louis is the only mentor who has ever made a choice between his two acts, the others are never gonna have the stones to do it.

Maybe if a judge abstains they should kick both acts off.

They could just get away with removing the judges power to vote when they have 2 acts in the bottom 2, arguing that they're crap at their job. I don't think any judge will ever choose again anyway

What's hilarious is that she doesn't even like Abi....that choice was forced on her by the producers at judges house (she does like Hannah though).

If Nicole really wanted Hannah to go through, abstaining could have backfired badly for her. If was by no means certain that two of the other judges would vote for her.

Frankie left on his own, Craig was in B2 with someone else's act, Marcus was in the final. Carolynne and Kye lost to Rylan, Melanie was in the sing off with District 3, Christopher was in the final. This year, he hasn't abstained once and we'll never have the chance of finding out if he would or not. They're there to judge and should be able to make those decisions even when 2 of their acts are in B2. |

I don't see a problem with a judge/mentor abstaining if two of their acts are in the sing off. Seems sensible to me.

Look if she abstained from voting so what? It's not easy for a mentor to pick one of their own acts for elimination - it's a very awkward situation for any judge, let alone Nicole

Seems to me to be the usual thing in the situation. How's a contestant to feel they have a supportive relationship with their mentor if the said mentor has just voted for them to leave?
