Not sure, but he's a much smarter operator than people give him credit for. He's played the 'joke judge' act for years, but this year is doing a good job with a better category.

Nicole had 3 boys in the top 5 last year I think...?

He's definitely beaten his own record; he's NEVER kept all of his acts this far in! (Mainly because he's been lumbered with the rubbish categories) I think this year goes to show, Louis (and Sharon to an extent) can actually mentor!

Louis or Sharon to win!

But Rylan was frequently in the bottom two.

I think he has broken a record yeah.

Kelly and Nicole both had 3 acts in the final 5, but had been in the bottom two multiple times already (and Kelly shouldn't really count seeing as Amelia got a free pass to week 6, and her original third act Sophie went really early on)

Louis having no acts in the B2 after 5 weeks is a new record. The longest streak I've seen in 6 weeks from the Boys in Australia this year (the first Boy lost via deadlock in Week 7, then the other two finished 3rd and 2nd).

Or maybe it goes to show they don't do any mentoring, it's all about being given good acts or crappy ones.

The judges tend to fly off back to their day jobs on Monday morning then come back on Friday.

It just shows that with a decent category Louis can do well. They've been dumping the groups and overs on him for years (and usually whichever category is perceived as the weakest of the four). If they'd known how it was going to go, they would have given Nicole the boys and Louis the girls this year (to make her look good and him look bad as usual).

Could easily happen : I bet Tamera is struggling and only narrowly avoided the sing off this week.

Louis would have quit mid-season. He's practically a misogynist.

Louie has had good singers in previous years, but decided to use the joke acts as a get out clause. Since Simon left he has been able to have free reign regarding song choices since 2005 last time he won.

To be fair he's now expressing that same sentiment as 'baby Buble'!

I agree with this, I don't think the judges really play that much of a part in how successful the acts are with the public. I think it's a combination of their likeability and decisions made by the show. Also groups and overs always lose most contestants quickly/early on. So the girls and boys categories are always 'better', regardless of the mentor.
