If Natalie makes it back, she's wriggled out of that difficult jive!

I am shocked at the OP, he is one of the longest serving members on DS, I don't know why I find this really sad

I hear ya my friend.
Poor Natalie is criticised when she dances and criticised when she doesn't.
I wish her a very speedy recovery.

I am not Natalie's greatest fan, but I would not like to think she was driving herself so hard to prove the begrudgers wrong, and ended up ill as a result.

Even if her jive was not up to her usual high standard I am 100% sure it would have been better than anything Dave, Mark, Ben or Fiona would have done so her place would have been secure anyway.

I don't think she should do the jive at Blackpool as that would have given her 2 weeks practice on the same dance, which I don't think is fair on the others. She should try to put this all behind her and move on with her new dance, whatever that is.

I have nothing against the girl personally and I wish her a speedy recovery.

I think you've hit the nail on the head, YL.

Natalie strikes me as a lovely hardworking girl who really wants to get things right.

Yes, without question, she has danced before and is very good already.

But, to vilify her (same with DVO and others) for being so good, is both unkind and pointless.

The same as when people vilify personally those who are poor beyond belief for being in the show 'at the expense of better dancers'.

When people vilify personally these people, they are aiming their ire at the wrong people entirely.

If any of us were to be offered the gig, and we knew we were either very good or probably very bad, we'd still take it if it were to be offered!

And so to me, it is the producers/PTB of the show to whom complaints must be made if you wish to not have their ilk on the show, not them personally.

The people who appear to have received the most public ire this year are Natalie. Dave and Mark.

Each one of those people will have feelings, and be affected by the utter bile that has been spewed their way.

I do not know, but would not be surprised, if Natalie found it all too much and was desperately working and working and working to try and show improvement on an already very good base, to show people that she was not here on a ride. And the effect of doing that is clearly exhaustion.

As I say, I do not know that is the case, but I do know that she appears to be a lovely girl who, like all of us, at times would like people's support and approval, and is trying hard to justify her existence on the show because of the naysayers.

I'm so sorry that this year has been particularly so full of bitterness.

I am someone who loves pure dancing, but I had to learn, and to realise, that the show is an entertainment show as well, and consequently we all benefit from having ALL types of people on the show - really good dancers, middle roaders on a journey, plain old terrible, and then wilfully comedic contestants. And that makes the show what it is. Something for everyone there - we can make our choice as to what we like, and vote or have our favourites accordingly. No need to personally vilify those people.

I'd love her to recover, and to win! Gutted to have missed the Proud Mary jive and so hope she can continue in the competition firstly on health reasons, and secondly to be voted through, so that we might be lucky enough to see it.

It seems she, and both Dave and Mark, couldn't/can't win no matter what they did/do.

Get well soon Natalie, whatever the cause.

All of the above.

I was really looking forward to that jive, and Proud Mary is a personal favourite so I hope we do get to see it at some time.

The rule just doesn't make sense. In every other sport/competition in the world, if a player gets injured, or withdraws for any reason - the OTHER person gets the "bye", not the injured party! Imagine a tennis match... if the INJURED person got a free pass to the next round!!?? Bonkers...

In SCD - they should give EVERYONE a free pass to next week, if someone can't perform due to injury. Then either have a double eviction the following week (if injured person comes back) or just a standard one person leaving... that way contestant numbers are preserved.
If Nat pulls out now, we'll be one short for the final
(but at least it will be a more interesting final, I suppose)

I'm gutted for Dave - it was his dream to get to Blackpool - he was TOTALLY robbed in that Dance Off. His performance in that one dance was miles ahead of Mark.
Darcey should be ashamed of herself. The whole nation knew what she was about to say... and I'll bet you the producers were screaming in her earpiece, "NO!!!! You can't say 'based on past performances'..."... so she stopped dead in her tracks.
BUT, in that case - she should then have realised her mistake (and the RULES!) and voted for Dave, but no - she stuck with Mark, despite it being obvious she knew he danced far worse.

Poor old Artem. I've just been watching all the old Kara vids on youtube... he looks about 20 years younger, and a million times happier. His nose looks a little different too...
”

But those sports competitions are one person against another so it would be difficult to give a bye (or 'buy' as the Daily Mail wrote!).

Didn't someone cut themselves badly on Masterchef last year and was allowed a bye though I think they might have just not had an elimination that week and eliminated two the following week.

The danger of not allowing a bye is that someone might hide a medical condition and make it worse. I always think it is wrong for athletes (and dancers?) to be allowed to take very heavy doses of painkillers so they can compete with an injury, it should be treated the same as any other drug misuse.

I have wondered whether she would be allowed to do it next weekend. Perhaps if she does not get back into training until the end of the week then she should be allowed but if she is back in training early in the week then she should start on a new dance like everyone else.

I'm starting to see why Tory cuts to welfare are met with such apathy by the general public, if this forum is anything to go by.

"Work til you drop" is an understatement for some, isn't it?

First of all, I hope that Natalie has a speedy recovery and that if the cause of both her back and fainting problems..is that she is trying to hard..that she and Artem notch back..If she doesnt win as a result of it..so be it..but get healthy ,girl!

It is only right that the bar be set higher for her, if she is to win. The judges are right to place that expectation on her, given her dancing AND performing arts background.
If she does not have the stamina and the capacity to improve week on week, without upsets..then that is telling us all something.

Somehow I think that if Natalie had danced on Saturday, and her fans had voted as per usual, Dave would not have been in the bottom two anyway.

Damned if she does, damned if she doesn't.

LOL at the idea that they should have thrown Natalie out of the competition for repeatedly fainting just a few hours before the live show, without even really knowing what was wrong with her. What great publicity that would have got them. What a laugh riot it would have made the Results Show.

Get real! Even if she's in the dance off. NO WAY will she be voted off by the judges. NO WAY.

She has trouble PERFECTING it., that's all.

Picture the scene.

Natalie makes such a dog's breakfast of her jive that she ends up in the dance off with Dave. Dave saved by the judges as he upped his game and gave a better performance than Natalie in the DO.

Nah, I can't picture it either.

I thought the same thing and this thread is a perfect example of why I stopped posting in here.

I keep creeping back on to this board because I love the show, but the amount of vitriol on here is too unhealthy for me.

It's time to start just popping in for the spoiler.

Natalie Gumede has said she’s devastated after missing Saturday night’s latest Strictly Come Dancing live show.

The Corrie star was ruled out of the weekend’s performances after fainting twice during rehearsals.

She was due to perform a jive to Proud Mary by Tina Turner with pro dance partner Artem Chihvintsev.

As per the rules of Strictly, Natalie was given a ‘bye’ through to next week and the show continued with a public vote, that saw Dave Myers leave the competition.

Taking to Twitter yesterday, Natalie thanked her fans for their support over the weekend.

“So deeply touched by your messages. Thank you so very much,” she said. “Was devastated not to dance yesterday but so thankful to be given the chance to dance again.

“I think we’re looking at exhaustion and sleep is doing the world of good but getting a final check up tomorrow.”

Natalie continued: “The cast, and you guys have been so wonderful and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you also to Artem Chihvintsev who was a tower of strength and so understanding.

“Gutted not to dance Artem’s jive but so thankful that there’ll be others xxx”

Next week Strictly Come Dancing is on Saturday 16th November at 6.30pm and will be live from Blackpool, with the results show on Sunday 17th November at 7.15pm on BBC One and BBC One HD.

I'm sorry but that stinks. She was having trouble with it in training (see her blog) and now she's just bypassed it to get to Blackpool. ”

I must say that I find your relentless slating of everything Natalie very sad and rather mean spirited. Its most unlike you tp be so single mindedly objectionable about one person.

Either you really detest the girl or you are worried that she will win....the only reason to worry about her winning an entertainment show is if you will lose a bet on it and I just cannot see why anyone would find her detestable...lighten up and give the girl a break, its just a glitterball at the end of the day.

Welcome to my world BuddyB... I have truly felt disgust at some of the stuff on here this year and so have just been checking in for the spoiler on a Saturday.

People like JD are just not my sort of people and this forum is not like it used to be with discussion but not character elimination.

No one knows if Natalie had an underlying condition that led to her collapse at the weekend- it could even be the pain killers- but to cast aspersions about like there are here is just wrong- whoever the contestant may have been and who-ever you want to win.

To be fair, I'm sure anybody who was here in Series 7 will remember the dog-with-a-bone attitude of one poster to the bye Jade got. It was ever thus.

Agreed, but for me this board really changed in Series 6 and has gone downhill every series since.
