SCD Ramblings That I Need To Get Off My Chest

I'm probably going to get a lot of stick for this, but, it needs to be said.

Sir Bruce Forsyth, once was the funniest man on Television, London Palladium shows were tremendous, Generation Game, Price Is Right etc.

Now, he's losing it.

He is well overdue retirement, or another option, which I'll get to in a little bit.

Personally, I find the shows with Tess Daly & Claudia Winkleman is much better, it's quicker, tighter, no mishaps or Sir Bruce stumbling over his lines or talking about the stairs (if he cant manage them, then go upstairs to Tess' Pit for the evening, one set of stairs, instead of 10 or 12 usages through the night.

Sir Bruce should either retire, like I mentioned, or go to the pre-recorded results show, where the BBC can edit out his faffing about post production and leave the live show to Claudia Winkleman, as she's naturally hilarious and doesn't ask or demand for an applause afterwards (like Sir Bruce does).

I was a Sir Bruce fan, loved him on the game shows in the 90s.
Tuned in to BBC One every Saturday Night to see The Generation Game.

My head agrees with you but my heart and childhood memories make me want him to stay.

Bruce has forgotten more about being funny than most people even know.

Sadly this is also the problem...

This is true as well.

Actually, the suggestion that he should swop places and compere the Sunday show (late Saturday) seems an excellent idea. It'd certainly take the strain off him off him and retakes and editing, could remove a lot of his mistakes, (if the unions would let the crew work that late).
He would then possibly get less criticism than he's getting now and it would be better for his health.

But given the old codger's vanity, I couldn't see him accepting this in a million years.

But it'll be past his bed time. Often he was SO grumpy when he had to stay for the results show in the final.

"Get off!"

Err..

I was going to mention cocoa, but thought better of it and that I should at least be nearly as serious as the OP.

What is it with this site that there are endless moanings about Bruce when he is doing his job well, thank you?

And that job, you need to be reminded, is about putting the contestants at their ease and softening the blows when the judges lay into them. He lightens the atmosphere, in other words.

Just let it go, can't you?

I agree 100% with the OP - and the suggestion of him doing the prerecorded results show instead is a great one.

Another "Bruce should go" thread to add to the many existing ones.

They seem to appear on a weekly basis.

Oh but Chantal, you have to understand. Btucie is just so annoying. Never mind that the ratings are through the roof, that's for the show...not for him. Never mind that he is the headliner, he opens and closes it and is beloved by the 9.999.970 viewers who don't post on here. The DS Strictly posters know what is best for the show and this is the only place they can say it. There are other forums dedicated to this subject, they know this well. (It's best not to inquire how they know that).

They know that Brucie is not popular with the Great British Vewing Public and ratings? Phhhht, they don't mean a thing. What is important is that they don't like him or more importantly, that they love to complain about him. Actually if he did go I do worry about all those posters who would have nothing to post. Well I'm sure that they would find something else to complain about. Probably how ugly Tess' dress was that week or how bad the trainging vidoes were.

And seemingly started by different posters most of the time. This should tell us something, surely?

The reason people keep going on about Bruce is, quite simply, that he is NOT "doing his job well"!

I can't believe anyone thinks he is good at live television. He is not!

Perhaps because it is so obvious to DS readers that it is time he went?

I seriously can't understand why he has been kept on. Are the producers worried that they will be accused of ageism?

The only thing I don't like about the live shows is Bruce Forsyth. He makes me squirm.

What a ridiculous post.

Bruce makes lots of errors, some huge, like calling Darcy Dave!, forgets or fluffs his lines, makes awkward asides about how the programme is live, and generally is a very poor live presenter.

There is no evidence that people are watching the show because they are fans of Bruce. It is much more likely that people are watching the show because they like the dancing, or they are fans of some of the celebrities, or they like reality shows, or a combination of all those. I can't imagine that m/any are watching simply because they are fans of Bruce!

Bruce used to be Mr Saturday Night but he isn't what he used to be and the show is much better without him. The BBC really should have a spring clean next year: leave Tess and Claudia in place as presenters, as they have a surprisingly good chemistry between them - and retire cantankerous old Len from the judging panel. They could either save money by having just three judges (no need for a 'head' judge), or bring in someone new - a retired pro, maybe?

Yes, apart from the obvious answer, it also suggests that they don't contribute to the existing threads, that they don't perform a search for an existing thread.

Anyway, it also demonstrates that generally, once the thread has been started, the same posters then add the same comments, just as they have done in previous threads

At least, that's how it appears to me.

What is wrong with all you mean spirited posters? Brucie is a legend, he will go when the time is right. Many people moan about age discrimination and then they do nothing but have a go at poor Brucie. He's doing OK, noone is turning off because of him, you all need to let it go.

Aww poor Brucie I dont mind the old fella tbh, I am not a fan by any means but I like him doing the show even though I hardly listen to him (especially his jokes) I prefer him to Tess who gurns her way through with her false smile and bad outfits and if Brucie were to go we might get someone else who was even less suitable than Brucie

Of course there is no evidence that people watch the show because of Bruce. The fact that he is the headliner has (as you very kindly pointed out) nothing to do with the show. The popularity of the show depends on so many factors that it is impossible to pinpoint just why it is so popular. I would not let it worry me if I were you that there is no evidence to the contrary either.

I do have friends that turn off because of Brucie. I've been sitting beside them and seen the grimace on their face as they reach for the remote control.

Well that's just silly, do they just turn off when he is presenting or altogether?
