So, when the Daleks went all Power Rangery in Victory of The Daleks, they were all given different role names...Supreme, Scientist, Strategist, Drone and Eternal... Mark Gatiss in an interview implied there was more to the Eternal than we had been told...will it ever be explained?

Private Eye reported at the time BBC Worldwide put money into the DW budget in return for new toys to sell, and that's what the new "daleks" were; no more, no less.

The Eternal Dalek was presumably meant to be whatever the kids playing with the toys wanted it to be.

I think they said that "Eternal" doesn't really mean anything. I suppose it's supposed to be a sort of placeholder in case they decide to do something cool with it in the future.

My guess is that it's a sort of backup Dalek, in case the whole race gets blown up again, and it has the blue prints to restart the Daleks again. Kind of like those black boxes they have in airplanes; the whole thing crashed into a volcano, but the box survived, and it can say why everything went wrong.

But that's basically what Davros does!

Besides the external, has the mystery of why the new paradigm Daleks have some sort of shutter door thing for a backside ever been explained? I vaguely remember some suggestion it was for a secret weapon.... though it seems an odd place for a gun, and not very secret either.

Yes, but for all intents and purposes, Davros is dead at the moment, and has yet to come back, and considering they think he screwed them over in Series Four, I don't think they'd want him around. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the Paradigm Daleks just decided to not include Davros in their history when they were rebuilding.

Actually, I think that would make for a good story; Davros returns, and sees that the Daleks are not only thriving without him, but have have erased everything about him from their history, and starts another Civil War.

Yep, that's basically most Davros stories!

He's also very keen on escape pods.

So there's more to them than that they're yellow and called 'eternal' Daleks?

In one of the live shows it coordinates time travel for the Daleks, but that's about it.

Of course! In custard they'd be practically undetectable...

I thought it was a "swiss army knife" kind of idea?

The gun arm and plunger are on a line that joins up with that back panel - I thought the idea would be that specialist equipment/weapons would come out of the shutter section and replace the current arms, as needed.

Or is that to sensible? (probably blow the cgi budget )

You're right, that's entirely too sensible. I'm going to ignore that and instead suggest it was to conceal a towing hook.

For caravans.

New paradigm Daleks like caravan holidays. They'll be in the toy shops next year.

Ahhh the dear old paradigm Daleks. I'd completely forgotten about them and hadn't realised that they're not in the trailer for the 50th. Discarded and forgotten about, much like the classic Doctors. I doubt anyone will be signing any petitions to get them back though.

Not completely discarded as they were in Asylum. Hope you are right though and that they don't appear in the 50th. One sad thing for me was that Raymond Cusick died shortly after these abominations appeared on screen and he didn't live to see his designs reclaim their rightful place as supreme masters of the Doctor Who monster universe.

The Time War Daleks would have always been RTD Daleks even if they stuck with the redesign.
