A lot of rumours that today is the day the review embargo is lifted and we finally start to see some reviews of the next gen games.i thought this would be a good place to post reviews, and discuss.

First one of the day-

NBA 2K14 IGN Review

If you skipped current-gen this year, itís a no-brainer: yes, yes, yes, yes. Next-gen NBA 2K14ís ambitious new modes each leave a bit to be desired, and for better and for worse, it plays almost identically to the game you may already own. But this edition is not only a smooth-flowing piece of pro basketball simulation, itís also one of the few games that makes a true next-generation leap in visual fidelity. And when youíre dropping $400-$500 on a fresh piece of hardware, thereís something to be said for that.
Sounds good.

I'll be honest I'm not seeing the stunning realism that review describes.

I guess we'll see an influx of reviews around 16:00 when the US IGN/GameSpot offices start to work. Excited!

I'm not exactly slating it, it looks good, I just am not really wowed. I'm sure in terms of polygon count, FPS and all that blah it's much improved, it's just not really much higher in the realism stakes IMO.

First wave releases are never that amazing in the scheme of things. E.g. go look at a X Box 360 game from 2005 and compare it to what we have now, could be for an entirely different platform from the level of improvements made over the systems life span. While we don't yet know if the next gen will be quite so long lasting, I would still say there is loads of time for improvements to be made and I don't think anything released this year will truly showcase the next generation as the developers are probably struggling with getting it working without (major) glitches and keeping the frame rate acceptable, plus last minute changes to specification (e.g. XBone CPU speed boost) won't have been known so couldn't be developed for.

Yes I definitely think things will get much better in terms of graphics, I only mentioned it because the review singled this out as one of the games that already delivers a next-gen looking leap, which I confess I don't see myself.

One game I did like the look of after seeing on IGN was Assassins Creed 4, not so much for the graphics which didn't seem an enormous leap over current gen versions (though nice) but seemed to be one of the few games that is of quite an ambitious scale compared to most of the very tame 'safe' types of game that typify a new generation of consoles and looks like a very fun game and could provide plenty of playtime for the money (which is a factor since the prices have been pushed up to £50+). Think that is one I will try to pick up if I can find it for a sensible price.

I think if you take those visuals and see it moving at 60fps in 1080p clarity it would look incredibly unrealistic. It's really a significant jump over current gen imo.

Yeah.. I meant realistic not unrealistic.

Just a shame Basketball sucks so much, looking forward to seeing how the Hockey games look and especially the new EA UFC series.

What did you think the first link in this thread was to ?

If I knew how to play basketball, I'd definitely be getting this. Here's to hoping the first nextgen cricket game is as good as this or FIFA 14 (although some how I don't think so).

lol.....
If rumours are true, we could see a quite a few reviews at around 5pm, including BF4.

I'm not a big fan of basketball, but that game is defiantly worth a look at even if its just for eye candy.

Funnily enough, i do have a soft spot for baseball, so wouldn't mind a good game based on the sport.

Apparently, the only Xbox One games out of embargo today are COD Ghosts, BF4 and NBA2K14. Have to wait a bit longer for the rest.

Reviews of KIllzone, Knack, Resogun and Contrast on PS4 will be revealed tomorrow.

IGN give FIFA 14 9.1. No change in gameplay from the current gen just a graphical improvement. The current gen got a 9.

Im sure most would agree the current game is nowhere near a 9. But if you like what you have on 360/PS3 then I guess this is for you.

Call of Duty Ghosts

PS4 - 6.5
Xbox One 7.0

http://www.polygon.com/2013/11/5/505...-ghosts-review

The Xbox One release's framerate was far more noticeable. As mentioned in the initial review, Call of Duty: Ghosts suffers from consistent framerate drops on the PS4, especially during multiplayer when action got especially hectic. The Xbox One version suffered no such drops, maintaining a steady 60 frames per second throughout.

For a multiplayer shooter, framerate consistency is paramount. Given its relative visual parity with the PS4 release, Call of Duty: Ghosts is a more playable, slightly superior (albeit disappointing) game on Xbox One.
lol, not very good review scores on either.

Damn, I'm glad I didn't buy it now.

Would be interesting to see where they'd rate the pc version.

and IGNs review

When comparing the PS4 and Xbox One versions side-by-side, thereís little to no variation in textures and effects, but there is a discernible difference in resolution. While both are displayed at 1080p, the Xbox One version upscales the game from 720p resolution. In contrast, the PS4 version runs natively at 1080p, which makes character models, weapons, and environments look noticeably sharper and more detailed. The difference is especially apparent on larger-sized TVs, where pixel density weighs more heavily in picture quality.
.........though I did encounter occasional framerate issues during the single-player campaign on PS3 and PS4, whereas my time with the Xbox One version was stable throughout.

That is what was reported beforehand. No surprises really. Sad though for anybody that gets it on next gen and has serious framerate issues. Did they say when it happened exactly?

Nice to see somebody actually score CoD properly though.
