I would like to buy a phone out right but not sure which one, I am thinking about the IPhone 5C at £469. Would it be better to go for the iPhone 5S?

Ahh, worth is a subjective term. If you just want a iOS phone then probably not. It depends what you want. Is 4g a requirement?

Then again if you don't require an apple phone there will be some tempting android phones available much cheaper, I.e. Nexus 5 or Moto G.

No 4g is not a requirement as i'd like to keep my unlimited data plan. I would like a decent phone to browse the internet, emails, apps and to watch Netflix on.

yes, you lose the horrid plastic back, you get the a7 processor and you get the really good fingerprint unlock feature.

For video you want the biggest screen possible I would have thought. If you want iOS then you are stuck with a 4" screen.
Swings and roundabouts......

EDIT: Or get an iPhone and then a cheap Android tablet on eBay and use the hotspot for Netflix.

Not iPhone's but LG G2 - lovely screen - 5.2" and FULL HD display it's not that much bigger than the iPhone as it's got a very small bezel.

It's well worth looking at one as the display will blow you away.

Thanks is it an Android phone and also how well does it cope with Netflix and NOW TV? Does it have BBM Messenger?

If you need any content from sky, I'd advise sticking with apple, android support for skygo and now tv is very device and os specific and slow to receive updates when new os's are out.

I saw the 5c new for £420 the other day will try and see where it was. On that basis I would say stay with the 5c over the 5s doesn't offer any real improvement for £130 extra.

As mentioned though if media is your thing on a phone the iphone would not be the way to go, a relatively low res (non HD) screen and woefully small in comparison to its rivals. These pack much bigger/better screens and only increase the phone size above the iphone by a small margin.

5c does have 4g.

Out of the two the 5s is better but how much better is the question, I would doubt it is £130 better over a 5c. They are both little more than tweaked versions of last years model. Both massively overpriced in any event so in for a penny etc may be some reasoning I suppose.

Massively overpriced is a bit harsh, especially as the RRP of the S4 and HTC One are in the same ball park.

The 5S is much better value for money than the 5C. The 5C is overpriced for what it is. Just spend the extra £80.

If you consider £400 to be in the same ball park as £540 then you would be right, in the real world most people would consider £140 or around 25% less to be quite a lot.

Basically on iPhone the 5C would be fine. Only main differences from the 5S is same CPU as iPhone 5 and frankly that's fast enough, coloured plastic back and no fingerprint reader.
4G frequencies are exactly the same as the 5S, 800, 1800 & 2600Mhz.

However, even though I personally loath Android and would always have iOS, there is nothing wrong with Android so the advice on the 5.2" phone is sound.

The only time I wish I had a bigger screen is when I'm doing iPlayer or watching the news and that's not often. For extended viewing I just get the iPad out and hotspot it.
If you are going to be doing Netflix a lot the iPhone will get annoying.

Hey, swordman & Stiggles, look at us being all grown up with our subjective balanced views re: Androind/iOS!! Hahahahahaha

It can and it bloody well did.
I'd also like to change "loath" to "dislike". Read it back and it sounded a bit over the top.
Android is fine really it's just as a PC tech every bloody phone someone gives me to "put my email on it" seems to have a different version or skin whereas iPhones are all the same.

That really irritates me , I am sure people wait hours, then when I respond directly under someone without quotes, choose that moment to post as well.

You are comparing discount price to RRP, when Samsung and htc release new models, the RRP is usually well into the £500's ( was the s4 £629?) with them being available for approx £500 from the likes of handtec, clove or expansys, obviously this drops overtime.

I still think it's harsh to call them massively overpriced.

I went for a Samsung Galaxy S4 on PAYG with EE in the end for £429 which included a £10 topup. I have a contract sim card on T-Mobile which I hope I can just pop in it and i'm good to go.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 looks a decent phone with a big screen but I have just one question, do I have one of the latest smart phones now? It was a big choice between the iPhone 5S on an early upgrade or the Samsung Galaxy S4 PAYG and as I had an iPhone 4S previously which broke I went for something different.

Compared to the 5c the 5s definitely worth the relatively little extra IMHO. Of course there are far more cost effective options available if you're willing to try other OSes.
