Xperia SP battery problem?
I've had a Sony Xperia SP for a few weeks now with no problems until today, the battery has drained very quickly and the phone feels quite warm. I haven't downloaded anything recently which would drain the battery, any ideas?

I believe that this is one Android weaknesses, it's advanced multitasking capabilities means that apps can still stay active in the background and drain the phone.
It could also be a rogue app, have you checked the battery usage section? |

It could also be a rogue app, have you checked the battery usage section? Its likely much simpler; my son has an SP. Battery life started to get pretty bad, but it was down to two settings : 1 - Enabled Stamina mode. iirc it disables wifi and data when the screen is locked. 2 - Screen timeout. It wasn't actually enabled by default, so the screen was staying on ... Change these and battery life was massively improved. |

I didn't say desktop class, I was referring to mobile class because after all it's not a desktop rival. Maybe I should use the term background processing rather than multitasking. Android gives the developers more options for running background processes or services than it's rivals, which is advantageous but also causes issues when coded badly or something goes wrong.
Why should android needs stamina mode, when iOS can handle wifi, Bluetooth and GPS on permanently without battery drain. |

Thanks for the advice, only thing I could think of was using lead from my old phone to charge it last night by mistake, would this have any effect?

Yeah sounds like some crashed app stuck in a processor loop or something

With any new 3rd party lead its best to first check that charging does not stop after a few seconds. |

Why should android needs stamina mode, when iOS can handle wifi, Bluetooth and GPS on permanently without battery drain. iOS doesn't handle wifi, bluetooth and GPS on permanently with no battery drain - that isn't what I've experienced on my 4S. With location services enabled and wifi on, it can barely make it through a day. If I had bluetooth on it definitely wouldn't make it through a day. Stamina mode on the Sony kit is just a handy option that can dramatically improve battery life, as out of the box the SP doesn't appear to be that well configured. |

Restart the phone and the rogue process should stop. See if the behaviour occurs after activating a certain app.

OP, have you actually checked which apps are running? (i.e using up RAM - random access memory)
list them here |
