Whole New Cast

There's often discussion on who should replace Bruce, Tess, Len, etc., so here's an extension of that idea....

Strictly has now run for 10 years, so what about a complete new start for year 11?

Complete new judging panel (though I'd miss Craig!), new presenters of the show and ITT; new professional dancers, new set, new band - and anything else you can think of!

Any ideas?

For the moment I suspect it's very much a case of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

And there are loads of viewers who respond badly to Change.

Be careful what you wish for.

As far as I'm concerned, a show with new presenters, judges, pros, a new set, a new band etcetera wouldn't 'be' Strictly. If you want the same premise but with different people, then international versions of Dancing with the Stars are for you.

lhave to agree whilst tweeking is ok to do all that would take away strictly

Why would anyone want to take a show that is as enduringly successful as this one is and start from scratch? Absolutely make a change here and there, but wiping out and starting again out of boredom would be a mistake.

It isn't going to happen. The BBC are "over the moon" with the ratings.

The only changes likely, is even more nonsense to attract a few more viewers, not particularly interested in ballroom dancing and hopefully, the retirement of the oldest geriatric.

I agree it largely ain' t broke, but let,s get hypothetical again

Presenting, Bill Turnbull and Su Pollard

Judges, Flavia, Ian, Karen H, Erin.

Dancers: budget to the wind, get the best possible, nick from international versions of the show if that wouikd work.

It would take the most inept, incompetent, insane, idiotic, stupid, dumb and irresponsible person to change the core of the most successful television show in the UK, and many many other countries, for ten years running. It is exactly that for the reason that people love all of the people involved.

I think kaycee is getting a rather hard time here! She's not suggesting changing the core of Strictly or the underlying concept, or starting from scratch. The suggestion is just change the participants and setting.

In any case this thread is supposed to be fun. I.e. People contribute who they'd like to see on the show. If they want to keep it the same, then by all means say, but there's no need to go on the attack. I doubt if anything would change in practice.

I actually quite like the idea of a complete change!

And it runs successfully in other countries with a different cast mainly, except Len and Bruno in some instances.

Most insane? Never know, they might have a different take on strictly we might like. Like, keep the camera still.
Or, show their feet.
Would be mad wouldn't it.

I think the rest of your checklist are currently working in BBC newsnight, so you've no worries

Perhaps the best people to change would be the decision makers behind the scenes. We may then actually get 90 seconds of dancing per couple and be able to see it without "arty" camera angles and camouflaged flooring.

There's clear evidence on enough threads on here to make it undeniably a fact that, that statement is completely untrue. Or don't you read posts that don't support your views?

I think there's a difference between saying people love them and everyone loves them. Clearly some don't, but as has been said, only a ratings dip ( or the unforeseen) might make anything change.

9.3 million people watched SCD recently. Are you honestly trying to tell me that even 1% of them post here ?

Not sure why you're fussed as most of your postings seem to be about what's on "the other side"

And they have definite proof regarding any change in presenting. No dips in viewer numbers.

You would risk the success of the programme by changing everything, especially when it simply does not warrant it. Change is always risky at any time. You would be likely to replace the existing successful programme and well-known lineup with what would be seen as a new programme in all but name.

A recipe for a viewing switch-off

Thank you Spin Turn, your post is appreciated.

And yes, you are right, this thread was supposed to be mainly for fun. A complete change would never happen.

But every series people moan about the judges, the presenters, the camera work, the singers, the band ....... I just thought "what the heck - ditch the lot" and start again!!

The thing is that different people moan about different things, and some don't even moan at all. So a root & branch change will fail to please, as those that think that the band was fine will be annoyed, those that think that the judges were fine will complain ..... and that doesn't even begin to address what the 9 or 10 million other viewers think (at a time when those viewers are not only staying with the programme, more are joining0.
