I'm on the fence about romance and the Doctor. If it makes sense with the story & the actors eg River and The Doctor, then I have no problem. He's over 1000 years to be completely asexual seems unrealistic but I don't want it to be forced, the Doctor, Donna relationship would have been all wrong with romance.

I always find it funny how the fans are so horrified by any implication that the Doctor might not be asexual. He has a granddaughter! Admittedly the conception might be a little different but really, did a sixties audience watch the show and complain that the presence of a granddaughter implied that the Doctor must have been sexually active?

The point of the show is more about the romance of time travel and its possibilities, so I think that sexual romance would detract from the fantasy escapism at the heart of the story, but then there are many things that could detract (such as skimpily dressed female companions).

With the casting of Capaldi, we can assume that they're moving away from the sexual romance, which will be refreshing.

But of course the webisode has one fail of logic: what woman would refuse to go in the TARDIS with Paul McGann?

As much as I'm sure Moffat wants to build excitement for the Christmas special, showing both 12 and Tom Baker as a far future Doctor in the 50th Special means any tension about a regeneration limit has been negated before it starts.

woops...

Yeah, but who would realistically have any tension anyway? We already know he's going to be regenerating for years to come!

No real reason to resurrect this thread but as we are without any thing new yet I just watched this again and it is a still a fantastic mini episode. Paul McGann is stupendously good as the Time Lord...... Are we sure there aren't any McGann 'missing' episodes anywhere

I want to invest in some Big Finish audios with the 8th. Any recommendations where to start ?

Also checked Radio 4 Extra but nothings on there at the moment Is there anywhere else where you can get the audios free ?

Big Finish does some stuff for a fiver,I don't know if any of his stuff is on there.
Storm Warning is his 1st adventure with Charley and is as good a place as any to start with. All his stuff with her is pretty good even though they later share adventures with the awful C'rizz,
Or you could go with the Lucie Miller stuff which starts with Blood of the Daleks. She is a great companion as well.

I can only highly recommend the Eighth Doctor Adventures range of stories, starting from Blood of the Daleks through to To The Death.
There are some superb stories and ideas in some of these. I do like it for Lucie and the Eighth Doctors relationship, it's a bit spiky but they evolve into a good combination. The humour between each of them becomes quite endearing.
There are quite a few classic monsters and villians revisited in these stories which have been done well: Morbuis, Wirrn, Giant Spiders, The Meddling Monk as well the usual Daleks and Cybermen.

If the stories are as good as people say they are, because unfortunately, i haven't listened to them, its a shame then IMO that the audio stories of the mcgann era could not be transmitted to visual format, ie; onto dvd or some other format.

I'm not sure how some of the stories would translate, they obviously would need tinkering with to adapt to a visual form.
What I like about the audio stories is the scope and ability to use your imagination to fill in the gaps.
Spoiler
For example, Blood of the Daleks would need a massive CGI Dalek presence to cover the Battle scenes which occurs over a large part of the second half of the story. A story like Human Resources also would, and it would be a challenge to see how they portrayed the war machines carrying the humans. But hey it would be good to see.
As I say some great concepts in the stories like Grand Theft Cosmos with pocket universes contained within diamonds.
