I bought a Samsung Galaxy S4 on Tuesday as some of you may be aware, I got it on PAYG for £429. It's a really nice phone and I will be using my contract sim with it that's on T Mobile which it all unlimited, calls, texts, data etc. My question is do I have one of the latest smart phones now? I am pretty sure the answer is yes but I just wanted to check. You hear alot about iPhones being the hot and in thing to have but is the Samsung Galaxy S4 just as hot?

No question.

All phones have various quirks to them that some people love and others hate, but you'd be hard pushed to find anything noticeably better than the S4 in terms of what it can do.

Once again, I have to say that I find myself impressed and confused regarding the battery life on these things.

Missus uses her S4 in what I'd call an "average" manner.
She gets calls throughout the day, she uses it to play games to fill any spare time and she checks her email and FB with it once in a while.

And, when I went to put it on charge last night, the battery level was still at 88% after a full day's use.

I can only guess at how much time you'd have to spend fiddling with the phone in order to conclude that the battery life isn't sufficient for a normal day's use.

Obviously battery life will be reduced if you're spending your time playing Real Racing 3 rather than Solitaire etc but, c'mon, if you're doing that then surely you should also have the brains to realise it's going to have a detrimental effect on battery life?

Define "latest". It came out in April - about six and a half months ago. That's not really "new" for a smartphone, but it isn't exactly old either.

This has nothing to do with your question.

The battery life is excellent on the s4. I rarely fail to get through a full days use. With medium to heavy usage I have about 60% of my battery left after 15 hours. I make calls, send messages, send and receive emails, go on the net. I bought a spare battery for it and carry it around with me in case I need it. I've had the phone for 3 months and I've only used it 3 times and on those occasions I had really hammered it. I used to have the Galaxy note and was using a spare battery almost every day.

The S4 is a a great phone. I used to complain about my Note, all the time, although I did like it enough to get another Samsung phone. However I can't fault the S4 at all.

Don't know about the S4 but I took purchase of a Note 3 a couple of days ago and I really like it. I prefer it to my previous S3, which was a good phone but needed replaced as the screen was badly cracked and I kept cutting my fingers with it.

Yeah agreed I am constantly surprised at the battery life on my S4 which easily lasts a working day. Add on a s-cover and it also looks really nice. I had an S3 previously for work which was ok, but I really cant fault the S4.

Its maybe become that mythical beast because unlike laptops, we don't sit down all day with our smartphone.

Uhuh,

I think part of the problem is that people (quite understandably, I suppose) like to post up reviews of their new toys as soon as possible and, with phones, we do tend to monkey around with them a lot when we first get them, which perhaps means that our first impression of battery life is rather pessimistic.

All i know is that by about 330 in the afternoon, all my colleuges with a fruity phone seem to be taking up all the power sockets to charge their phones yet my S4 has 50 to 60% left....
