'It's a slap in the face'! Matt Cardle and Steve Brookstein among four former winners SNUBBED from X Factor 10th anniversary show

They were tipped for big things when they were crowned winners of The X Factor, and dreamed of sell-out concert tours and super-stardom.

But Matt Cardle, Steve Brookstein, Leon Jackson and Shayne Ward have been unceremoniously snubbed from the ITV talent show's upcoming 10th anniversary celebrations.
The quartet are said to have been left out from next weekend's milestone show, which will mark one decade of the series by seeing the current hopefuls perform tracks by some of the most successful former contestants.

And while the likes of Little Mix, Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke, Joe McElderry and last year's winner James Arthur will see their work covered, Cardle, Brookstein, Jackson and Ward have been left out of the episode.

What will no doubt come as a further blow to the foursome is the fact that songs by Olly Murs and One Direction - who came second and third respectively in 2009 and 2010 - will feature in the show, despite them not actually ever winning The X Factor.
A show source told The Sun: 'With such a massive roster of successful artist from the past ten years, not all winners could be included in the final song choices.'

Another insider added: 'It is a slap in the face for the winners who won't be covered. Bosses have obviously chosen the formers stars who they think still resonate with viewers and who have had the most success.'
The anniversary episode will also see successful former contestants offer advice to this year's crop of hopefuls, including the likes of Tamera Foster, Sam Callahan and Rough Copy.

Meanwhile, Olly Murs will perform on Saturday night's show, while One Direction will take to the stage on Sunday in a pre-recorded appearance.

This isn't the first blow for Cardle, Brookstein and Jackson, with the trio left out of video to celebrate a decade of The X Factor earlier this year.

All three were dropped by their record label following disappointing sales of their debut albums.
Brookstein won The X Factor back in 2004, with Ward following suit the next year. Jackson was hailed champion in 2007, while Cardle lifted the trophy just three years ago in 2010.
But despite both landing in just fourth place during their stints on the show, the likes of Cher Lloyd and Union J were included in the YouTube mash-up.

It's little wonder Brookstein was left out of the show's celebrations after falling out of favour with X Factor mogul Simon Cowell during a very public spat, leaving the singer performing for £2.50 in coffee shops up and down the country.
He previously said: 'I remember *looking out into the audience after I won and thinking, “This is it, it can’t go wrong now. I’m going to make some great music, have a great career.” It was an amazing feeling.

'It’s amazing how many doors close when you part company with Cowell. It’s almost like leaving a mafia family. Simon Cowell has such an enormous ego, he believes that if he can’t make you a star, then no one will.

'Because he’s so powerful, it’s virtually *impossible to get any attention once he’s lost interest.'
MailOnline has contacted a spokesperson for The X Factor for comment.

Looks like next weeks theme has obviously been revealed as well Im looking forward to it, some more contemporary song choices but i am putting my money on Sam B signing a Leona Ballad.

That song deserved to be huge. The thing is none of them will be able to do a Leona/Alex song justice because they're not on their level.

I'd love for Tamera to sing Forgive Me I think that would be a great performance!

As much as I feel bad for Shayne Ward, I'm glad that it suggests Louis isn't going to give Nicholas (if he gets through) that awful winners song he had.

He'll probably give him The Climb

That may take some of the gloss off Sam if she tries comparing with Leona!

I'm surprised Shayne was snubbed and Joe wasn't; was the former's fallout with Syco really bad (I mean, they did delay his album then drop him right after)?

I wonder if they will flog Sam C. into next week, have Olly give him advice and make him happy, then peacefully lay him to rest on the same week (4 years ago) when Olly and Jedward were B2.

Surprised Joe's in there…didn't they part on bad terms? Can't imagine which of his songs they'd give someone…unless it's the Climb but like every winner…it's not technically his song.

This shows just how petty the producers are. Matt Cardle is blacklisted, yet Jo what's his name isn't? Matt is still releasing music, yet I do not see anything from Joe? This is all about Matt standing up against Syco, in my opinion and doing his own thing.

I thought he was gracious in leaving, then he won that operastar thing?

from what they said I think it can be either a song they performed whilst they were on the show or something they did afterwards so in theory they could give someone something like don't stop believing and it would fit the "rules"

That was his goal, but Shayne won't be invited. Poor Louis, can't even brag about his only win.

Oh, dear God, I hope not. Give the woman a break from boring old power ballads. She's so much better than that.

Joe McElderry is doing just fine and is signed with Universal Decca, has released 4 albums and is currently writing/recording album 5 with a 50+ date 2014 tour.

I think all winners should have been included in this so don't think it's fair to have a pop at those that have been.

Joe's doing reasonably well, I believe. Probably similar to Matt, sales wise. On his fourth album now iirc.

Well said! I am tired of reading people on here having a pop at Joe, whilst at the same time defending Matt, when their careers have followed a similar trajectory.

And just for the record, I have nothing against Matt and am pleased he is still recording and releasing music - and he should have been included in the anniversary.

Joe is still releasing music too - currently writing for his 5th album (4th while signed to Decca/Universal). But I do think that ALL of the winners should have been included in this for it to be considered a proper 10th anniversary episode. Would be great if the chosen song from Joe's repertoire was one of his self-penned tracks (but they were written while with Decca so highly unlikely) or at least Wide Awake, an original from his debut album. But it will most likely be The Climb.

whilst I don't have a problem at all with them not having the acts sing something connected to all of the previous winners it will be interesting to see what they do in the montages and VTs about the history of the show what they do about the acts-who-must-not-be-named

Thank you for letting me know. I assumed wrong, so I am sorry for this. I have no problems now with Joe being included, since he is still releasing music.

If this is the case though, Matt should have been included too, if Joe is. But hey, if the producers feel the need to be petty, let them

Tamera NEEDS to sing All Night Long or Forgive Me. we need another uptempo from her

I'd love Sam B to do The Silence, that song should have been a hit.

Odd choice but I can see Rough Copy doing a more rnb version of Bleeding Love
