I haven't a clue re Aussie music charts etc but maybe this is the sort of thing they go for?

Overseas (i.e. non-Aussie) Spice Girls fans seem to be the driving force behind this - apparently physical singles are virtally non-exstent in OZ these days... though I'm not sure it would qualify as a single with that many tracks on it anyway! So what I'm trying to say is the physical CD is basically irrelevant to chart placing, but the digital release this week will act as a normal single.

CD of remixes about six weeks later (Mel's fans are very excited about this )

A lot of them have been asking for a physical CD for a long time, so they are going to be over the moon. Personally, I haven't liked any of the remixes I have heard. The song just doesn't seem to lend itself to that treatment.

2/ acoustic version
3/ live version (perhaps they are counting more than one of these?)
4/ Te Amo version
5/ Matt only version (acoustic and live, would that count for 2?)

I had a listen to the remixes in the link and although I personally am not a big fan of them I can see they would be popular in a club.

I am surprised at no live versions though, any reason they would not be included?

As far as I know there aren't any professionally recorded, which might be a stumbling block

no worries - one doesn't always consider the practicalities (e.g. a lot of people seem to think a live DVD of the Porcelain tour can be magically released without any professional recording too)

It was only put on FB an hour ago and it has had over 9K likes already!! It is rather lovely though - prefer it to the one with the geek glasses.

13,522 now. I don't really understand the 'likes' sometimes. It is a lovely photo but no better than some of the others that got way fewer likes. When The Fire was first announced it got around 11,500 and that was a lot at the time. If it brings in new people who take a look at his music too then it's all good.

I think some of it has to do with the fact that today is a bank holiday, so people have more free time to be on Facebook. It's been shared about 900 times so far, meaning it will have reached people it wouldn't do normally - I don't recognize about 99% of the people who have commented on it! It's also been shared widely on Twitter - you never know what will catch people's imagination!
