Very nice . I had chance of a ticket for tonight but I just can't make it (unfortunately as the show is right up my street) Love to hear your thoughts when you get a minute x

I had a lovely evening!! All the performers were excellent, as was the orchestra. Of course there were some things they did which we (my daughter and I) preferred a different version that we've seen, but overall the show basically did what it said on the tin, so a very entertaining evening.

Matt did three songs - MLIM and BHH, which he's done many times, and were to his usual standard. The other was a complete surprise. His second song was Queen's Who Wants To Live For Ever, and he sang it with all the control, power and also tenderness that the song requires. There were two men sitting in the row in front of me, who were Kerry Ellis fans, who looked at each other when he finished and nodded approval at each other, and one mouthed "impressive" at the other, and it seemed like they were surprised. I love seeing the reactions of those that haven't seen him live before, and aren't expecting much. And he was right, it was impressive.

Criticisms? He wore a black t-shirt, jeans and a jacket, not exactly scruffy, but out of step with the others. I really don't think it would hurt him to wear a pair of smart black trousers and a white shirt, as Lee Mead did, if he is going to do these sorts of shows.

However, I don't wish to end negatively. It was a wonderful show, and Matt held his own easily amongst some top MT stars.

Thanks Crabbie

Sounds like a fab evening. We all have our own preferred "take" on arrangements, production don't we. I'm so glad some eyebrows were raised, he really does surprise many who just think he's an over hyped XF puppet UNTIL he lets rip with that wonderful voice of his. I just keep thinking, listen, give the guy a chance! There is a review that hints at surprise re just how good he was singing bring him home with just a piano. This is were he shines for me, less is so much more with a voice like his. PS shirt was in evidence last eve

I personally would love him to create a MT based album. Lots of others have done this and when Album4 is released, promoted and toured, why not whilst he works on the next one? I'd still love a full acoustic album too

Thanks Šárka for recording

Speaking of clothes, black slim fit shirt and black trousers would have done the job

It is interesting how we have different expectations of Matt and actually that's great. For me natural voice of Matt greatly exceeds his MT voice.
But I completely support the idea of a acoustic album but only with his own songs

It is surely a mark of a great singer that so many people can take pleasure differently from his voice. In fact. I have long accepted that it is a multi faceted voice which, in my view is getting better over time. I took a huge and secret delight in how Matt's top notes sounded in comparison to the other male singers. So many men now slide into falsetto, but my own view is that Matt is in a class of his own in this respect. 'Bring him home' was just so excellent. I went to the Cardiff show and people in front and adjacent clearly wondered who he was and mumbled appreciatively. They must have thought they had missed out on a good singer after my OH was unable to contain himself with clapping only! I do actually wonder why more names and short introductions were not given. As much as some did not know Matt, I knew little about the female singers and only slightly more about the men. I felt it a small but annoying detail; names are important when hearing singers for the first time.

I agree very much about the introductions. They all seemed to just appear on stage and launch into a song. Matt appeared more shy and reticent on that stage than I have seen him in a long time, bit of a rabbit in the headlights, until he started singing. I think at the smaller gigs he has developed a wonderful easy style, great rapport with the audience, which is a joy to watch over again on videos. And he's just so comfortable at larger gigs with his band. At the Cardiff concert, I felt as if he had jumped back several years, he seemed so nervous. Luckily he had that wonderful voice, and it certainly over rides any worries about his initial stage presence.

Thanks for the info. I would've loved to go but couldn't this time. I like hearing MLIM without the other vocalists, hearing just what he does is interesting.

No problem Antologia. Yes it was a different vibe, bit of an edge to everything. He still manages to be funny and charming along with the edge though, and amazing vocals of course.

Fantastic show at Zedel tonight. He played piano while he sang FOR YOU! First time he's ever played piano on stage - and first time he's performed For You - been hoping he would for five years!

He also did an acoustic version of Porcelain!! And revisited This Trouble Is Ours - with the low beginning! So nice to hear a couple of songs from Porcelain again after so long!! 😊

Just heard joining @JackSavoretti @wardthomasmusic @thebenforster @NellBryden @JesstheBandits @blake we have @mattcardle now too 12-3 Sunday
It's Xmas show at BBCRadioLondon, do they usually sing some kind of christmas songs?

I think it's a sort of super massive live Christmas show that you can get tickets for. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong. Heavy on chat and frivolity I'm thinking.
With Matt appearing in London as far forward as April '17, any one else sort of wondering how album 4 is still to be 'soon'? ( In Matts own immortal words!) I am loving his intimate and live CD but would hate album 4 to be later than we thought. Presumably we can expect a full band tour...possibly now late summer? Or am I being unrealistic?
Guess i want to see how his fabulous songs end up finally, with the studio versions...and what has been left out. And I have never yet been to full band show so can't help looking forward.

To be honest I was hoping for a spring album, but with these April shows, I don't know. Realistic (and a little bit painful) approach - perhaps a single in the first half of the year, the second in the summer, the album in September, the full band tour early in 2018...
But this photoshoot with Sonya Jasinski must have a closer reason...

And now for something completely different - I found this link on popjustice https://www.reddit.com/r/Music/comme...cly_published/ An independent musician posted his earnings reports on reddit on the different streaming platforms. Maybe someone will find it interesting

Agree it doesn't look likely the album will be released before April now, and I'm also looking forward to a full band tour when it happens!

Also looks like a version of the Intimate & Live album will be available on itunes from 30 December - with 8 of the songs from the CD. - https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/in...e/id1184281978

That was an interesting read antologia - it's certainly a changing world for musicians!

Grinch in me - I don't get why they are pushing ICMYLM so much and don't get the way of releasing Intimate & Live.

I'm really, really looking forward to Higher Power.

I know what you mean... as it's a cover. Perhaps it's a way of getting his voice to new people and i think that's working, and then new fans are going to be really receptive to being hit with the 'biggies'...Matt's own stuff. Seems like a possible plan?
The song is doing really well on itunes and it does show that people are really picking up on the quality of Matts voice. As a vehicle for showing off the range and control of his singing I think that song is a very good choice indeed. ( And, personally, I think he outsings the original.)

Matt's doing a gig at The Lowry in Manchester on 27th January. That's been a great venue for him in the past, and good to see something a bit further North after so many London-centric gigs recently!
