Why are many songs released in the UK first these days?

I don't know if you guys have noticed, but we seem to get many singles released here beofore the US. For example, Blink 182 haven't even released 'First Date' over there, that was released 2 months ago and we are now onto the next single 'stay together for the kids'

Another example is Linkin Park, we have had all of their singles released before they were in the US, often months before, whats going on?

Maybe because the American music chart is though to make an impression on so the bands / artists / record companies decide to release them in a UK market to check the performance of the track the make a decision to release it in the US saving them a lot of money, promotional work and travelling in the US if it has no impact here.

America doesn't really have a singles market, it's more skewed to Albums. The Billboard Hot 100 is more concentrated on radio airplay than sales.

I saw "stay together for the kids" on TRL a while back. So it probably was released as a single. Now there showing First Date on TRL

They release the the song over here first as a way of testing the water. If the single is a success over here then it will be released everywhere. If it ain't it won't, but not always the case. The problem is also it is suppose to be hard to get into the UK single charts, but with so much crap being released I could make a record and get into the charts.
