I am having problems connecting my speakers, mixer computer and microphone in order to use the microphone for karaoke on my computer. I can get sound from the speakers but not the microphone

I have a bose speaker system which I am able to connect and use on the computer

http://www.hispek.com/bose/computer-...FSrJtAodPlgAWQ

I have a pro sound 4 channel stereo mixer

http://www.maplin.co.uk/4-channel-stereo-mixer-31137

and I have a dell inspiron all in one computer

and a hama dm65 microphone

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hama-Dynamic...rds=hama+dm-65

is anyone able to help me please or advise where I am going wrong. maybe it is where I am putting the wires in the mixer.

any help will be welcome as my wife loves karaoke

thanks

Throw that mixer in the bin. Or try and get your money back on it. Everything I can find on the interweb suggests that contrary to what Maplin say on their website it is not a mic mixer.

Then buy one of these

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Behringer-50...dp/B000J5UEGQ/

You will need to replace the mic lead with one of these

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Stagg-High-Q...dp/B002YUAK54/

That should let you do the job.

What I would do is plug the Bose speakers into the phono output sockets on the Behringer. Use a 3.5mm stereo jack to 2x 1/4in jack lead to plug the output of the computer into one of the two line in stereo channels on the Behringer.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Series-3-5mm...dp/B00A7VVP3S/

That way the mixer controls everything, the mix of mic and music and the volume of the speakers.

thanks for reply chris

may I just add. the mic did in fact work. ( I think my wife right clicked on the speaker - bottom right - and clicked the speaker and set it up that way ) but then the brand new dell computer crashed, and I had to do a clean reinstall. the engineer came and did that . since then we could not get the mic working. even after right clicking on the computer.

Everything I could find on the interweb about that mixer suggests it is not a mic mixer, it does not appear to have any mic pre-amps in it. Though finding anything remotely resembling specs or a manual for the thing is proving next to impossible.

I would still be tempted to do it the way I suggested. That way there is no faffing about trying to get the mic to mix in with the music playing on the computer using the tools built in to Windows. By doing all the mixing on an external device you are in total control.
