Quite an impressive feat when you think about it. 4 out 5 smart phones are now android based. Blackberry OS - Blackberry iOS - Apple Windows Phone - Mainly Nokia Android - Samsung, HTC, LG, Sony, Motorola, ZTE, Acer... Also it's worth mentioning that its completely free for manufacturers to use it. |

Although conversely it being free and out of the control (to an extent) of manufacturers means it is more costly in the long run.
The ability for apple to control ios allows them (to a degree) to use much less expensive architecture. |

however if you look at usage web traffic and app/music/game revenue downloads etc are dominated by iOS.
My gran has a Android phone - she only uses it to call people. |
