I can't understand why, but when the HDD gets reasonably full, this machine won't write to DVD discs. It goes through the motion, i.e. if I try to copy a 1 hour movie from HDD -> DVD in say XP mode, it plays the film for an hour, but then fails to write to the disc – sometimes it gives the "there may be scratches" error. It won't even format discs when the HDD is quite full.
If I clear out space on the HDD then it seems to work ok.
Does anyone know why, and more importantly how I can fix this?
I've tried cleaning the dust particles off the ring that grips the discs to no avail.
Thanks

ToneBone.
The HDD could be needing space to buffer or something like that ---- I don't know how the copying process works.
It does sound like a DVD drive problem --- you could try cleaning the laser -- as the longer the writing process the further out from the centre of the disc the laser has to write.
Not the same machine but there is a repair manual here which makes interesting reading.

Thanks oscar1 - I thought it might be using a buffer.
I've found the service manual for the EX83 - I'll have a read!

You do realise you can do this in high speed mode, and it won't leave you waiting for an hour to find out if it worked .... ?
