It's the same sort of limited poll which would probably place talentless crap like One Direction as the greatest band in history. Not that I'm comparing Tennant to talentless crap of course! I'm not even complaining about the result, Tennant is very popular even with us oldtimer Classic Whovians, however, the fact that 90% of voters picked someone other than the most iconic and many would say definitive Doctor of all time, and 3 of the New Who Doctors are in the top 4 does strongly suggest that the majority of the voters would be from the younger demographic.”

Such polls will always have a few zeitgeisty results. I remember a late '80s poll of the greatest albums of all time had Push by Bros rated quite highly. These days, I doubt it would even get a sniff of the top 1000 albums of all time.

However, it needs to be acknowledged that Tennant remains the most consistently popular Doctor, almost four years after his departure. In the public consciousness at least, it would seem David has usurped Tom as the quintessential Doctor.

Of course he still had his quirks but he was much more that way and written as such. Its why he will always be a bit of a housewife's favourite. I suppose the word I would use is 'dashing' perhaps.”

Who on earth did Ten have a proper relationship with on screen who showed that he a handle on matters of the heart? Rose he couldn't even say I love you to and never even kissed. The closest might be Reinette - which was a Moffat script.

Ten was to a degree as romantically incompetent as all the doctors but relatively speaking I still think that in his general demeanour and the way he was written he was still closer to a classic archetype of the 'romantic leading man'. Which is not to say he was some lothario but in the scheme of things.

Eleven once said he wasn't a hero. He was just a mad man in a box. I think Ten was presented as something of a hero figure. Again. Nothing wrong with that. Its just how I interpreted that incarnation based on the writing.

I love Tennants Doctor. I love Rose. I'm not a great fan of S2 for many reasons. Its not because of them so much. And to me that season felt like a love story to varying degrees.

Of course River and Eleven could be seen as such but it was a bit more convoluted and less clear cut.
