We have made DS history.

Mel is closing in on 60K followers amazing for an act that didn't make the live shows.

She is, her announcement gave her a much needed boost on social media, she's gotta hold it till she gets her single out though.

She might just end up proving a point, I really hope she does as it'll be long overdue if she does.

Anyway, back to GD to poke a WUM with a stick (its a decent one).

Oh FGS I leave for an hour and the WUM gets banned. I want Just Vogue back...

I just really need Melanie to get a recording deal and release a few songs. She has the Irish backing her now and it's best to strike while the iron's hot. I can see her doing well in Ireland, that should amount to success in the UK too provided the material is strong and well executed.

Well she has recorded something as she was in a studio yesterday and she has said she is looking to release before Christmas if she can (I assume this is independently) so things could well happen.

If it's released on iTunes and gets a top 20 placing, record labels will see that there is a demand for her and she could potentially get a record deal with Sony. Louis should really help negotiate this deal.

I would imagine iTunes and Amazon would be the targets and as you say, hopefully she can prove viability on the iTunes chart and snag some label interest.

Would be good if Mel gave pledge music a go like someone on the main forum suggested. When it was a little up in the air if she had made the live shows or not, That could really generate interest once her campaign reaches 100%.

Part 2 ... Wow, thats great. Just shows that people outside of the show see something in her that the producers obviously didn't. I hope she goes on to make them regret it. Personally, I believe she is better off without XF, as it turns out she got what she needed from them - publicity. The way she handled herself with dignity throughout is a major reason why she is so popular.

If X Factor ever have the cheek to contact Mel again I hope she rejects them without hesitation. Mel is going down the right route. I think if she is currently unsigned pledge would be brilliant for her.

Dunno, she could use it as a yearly PR exercise

Not looked into pledge music but what's the actual deal with funds? The thing with crowd funding is that while there are great success stories if you read into it more they can show to be a lot less attractive than they appear and then you have the issue of how many people will actually hand the funds over and how much you are actually giving away.

You really do need to know what you are doing with that stuff. But then, not looked at pledge music so it may work differently to say kickstarter.

Many former contestants have used pledge. There is a ton of merchandise that is sold and tickets to gigs and there is an option for private gigs.signed CD's personal live chats, having your name on the album and all the money pledge towards these thing's go towards the recording of the album. It's amazing just how many fans get on board with the projects.

That's not what I meant.

What I meant is with most crowd funding you receive money in exchange for x. X being something that the person pledging funds wants and when you get into the financials... Well it takes more than "wow your getting funding in" to figure out whether its worthwhile.

I'm in no way saying she shouldn't do it, I was just asking about the actual business model because I've seen a lot of time wasted by startups using crowd funding and wondered if it had the same caveats when you get past the hype.

I am hoping if she goes down this path it gets a record labels interest. Janet Devlin went down this path and this campaign got a record labels interest.

OK... That's actually kinda weird.

I didn't mean that kinda news. I meant like, any news not what she is going about in her daily life.

that was a joke wasn't it? I mean you haven't actually taken to a tree outside her house or anything I hope?!?!? - is it wrong that I don't have complete confidence in that he just says stuff for shits and giggles?

She favorited a tweet from a fan who met her on the bus. I can prove this fan met Mel too I was looking through the bus window from a bush with my high powered binoculars.

Woohoo part 2

I took a quick glimpse and this is only the third appreciation thread I can see (after Little Mix and Union J) to get a part 2 since the contestants on the 2010 series. Not bad for a non-finalist who as of yet hasn't released anything!
