Is that a real statement or just a statement you added to a random tweet?

Mel has announced on her FB that she is going on tour, starting 27th June. Tour dates aren't up yet but from the comments it appears to be Ireland only.

So some news at last... Still wanting to see some content from her but at least this shows she will be working so it may come in due course.

If I'm honest, I actually hate it and don't think that the original arrangement is right for her at all.

Interestingly this cover by Boyce Avenue appeared in the side bar which I really like and thought was worth sharing. I might actually buy some of this guys stuff, it's actually really good.

I think, if Mel is going to sing songs like this one, she needs to slow it down like this guy has and let her voice control the song.

I wish she would look at how other people cover songs (well) and take note, adjusting the arrangement to her voice. She is capable of doing this, she just needs the balls to try. What's interesting about acoustic arrangements is that the voice commands them entirely (the voice is more exposed) so she wouldn't *need* the instrument as much as her voice.

She said that the tour is just in Ireland for now and only one venue is announced, I think she is doing Cork though as she responded to someone asking if she would do Cork as if to say she likely will; so two Ireland venues (one announced and one alluded to).

She is at a festival in May (I think) in the UK if you want to see her. I believe she said it in the comments on her FB.

Melanie will be Supporting Matt Cardle tonight at the Academy Dublin

Apparently she went down well and she was trending in Ireland when she announced it on twitter. She also gave away tickets to some fans which I thought was nice of her.

I'd be interested to see if there are any videos and supporting an artist such as Matt she could get some proper attention. You never know... I think its somewhat admirable that she wants to try and do it on her own but in reality she's going to need some financial backing or a label to get anywhere fast.

Who is he? Does he have any influence? His twitter seems to have stuff that indicates that he may be involved in the industry in some way but I don't know who he is. But for some reason he rings some kind of bell.

I was there last night, she was amazing! Really don't know what was wrong with those X Factor judges.

She had some serious buzz on twitter afterwards, it looked like she did good. She said yes when I asked if there would be vids (although she often doesn't follow through with them), I hope she actually does as the way people were reacting they would be worth seeing. Also it would be a somewhat important gig as there would be people there that she needs to impress so its good that she did great.

How many songs did she do?


ETA: I fired up the social listening platform we were using during XF and switched Mel's profile back on just to see what the buzz amounted to.

Just shy of 3000 mentions/favs/likes/retweets/shares last night. Thats up from like, 30-50 on average. So, I think that's pretty smart, they reached 400,000 people and she is gaining followers so, she's probably picked up new fans from it too (she has been losing big chunks of her audience of late).

Roar, HQ version. Although I really disliked the version Mel put up before, this recording is much better quality and the performance is better for it, I prefer it, although still far from one of my faves.

There is also a (presumably) drunk host towards the end who does upstage her if I'm entirely honest.

Lol, I replied to him saying to drag her away.

It was a joke I think, she's plugging a tour over the summer and has said blatently that she is not doing it again. I'd actually be disappointed in her if she did it again, as it would prove her detractors correct.

I would imagine she is well aware that she could suffer a loss of fans and a backlash if she went in again, 5 times would be too many and looking for the easy way into the industry, she isn't stupid.

Dunno if this really constitutes as news but, Mel tweeted that she had developments this week so I googled to see if there was any news out there and her managements website now says that she is producing an album with Frank McNamara. Not sure if that's her development or not...

Why are her management revealing stuff like this and she not though? That's just silly... lol. They should really be announcing stuff properly or not at all; wish she wouldn't make cryptic announcements with no follow up though, as now I'm not sure if this should be passed around; I'm assuming it is as her management wrote it on their site though.

For those who may not know who he is (which is quite possible if you don't follow classical music, and/or aren't Irish); he is a very well established classical composer; started on RTE, produced platinum classical albums, worked with two Eurovision winners and is pretty high profile in this field.

So, she's done really well to get his backing; not sure that its what I would have expected; I'm not sure what she will come out with; I don't see it being commercial pop; I'd expect something more classical. Who knows, I guess we will see.

Could be interesting.
