Making real coffee with a cafetiere is every bit as easy as making instant coffee. I'd recommend you experiment until you find what you like. Obviously buy a dark roast (which also has less caffeine) if you like a strong flavour. I'm drinking a yummy one now from Papua New Guinea, but here's what I usually buy:

I buy the beans and grind them fresh every morning - you can't beat it!

Not sure about grinding beans of a morning, sounds a bit laborious. Normally in the morning I just want it good and I want it fast, (I'm talking coffee here of course!

). But yes, I think a bit of experimentation's probably in order to find what suits best.

Too much info / too many options?
But whatever you use, the quality of the coffee is what matters.”

I like the look of a Moka pot a lot, never seen one of them before. Quite an attractive looking little thing to have in the kitchen and seems pretty easy to use. The article says, "put it on a heat source" so I'm assuming you could heat it via just placing it direct onto a gas hob, or would that ruin it?
Anyway, plenty to ponder! Thanks for the opinions everyone.
