It's no 1 on Trip Advisor on Birmingham and there are four million naturists in the UK and millions more who have gone to a nude beach on holiday. Why yuk? Why do the British have a problem with spas?

I have no problem with Spas!! What I have a problem with is that the contestants have been confronted with a naturist hotel with no prior warning. I am guessing they didn't know that might happen before they were told at dinner on the first night. If it was me, I wouldn't go. Not everyone finds it acceptable to be in a hotel with naked people.
And it certainly isn't No 1 in Birmingham on Trip Advisor. It is no 1 for SPECIALITY lodgings, which is far from the same thing.

No, it WAS No 1 of all hotels for a while. Then Trip Advisor decided to place it in the specialist category some time ago.
To your first point. And I do really not get this. The Hotel Inspector had a wealth of national press coverage at the time, not long ago, along with many follow up articles, these are professionals in the business who should keep up with that programme and other developments in the industry and I am honestly surprised that Tim was not recognised by any of them from the start. Either it is genuine (surprising) or they are brilliant actors. And I am afraid that cynically they were deliberately chosen to be the most prissy uptight types who would be 'shocked' and not join in, as other more laid back people I have seen on the programme would go with the flow and try things. I suppose it makes better tv.
Sadly the spa will be unappreciated, as taking a sauna with swimwear on is like taking a bath with swimwear on.They will not be in a hotel with 'naked people.' There are no other guests in the establishments the night they go anyway. Anyway, it's up to you what you wear in the hotel, and indeed the spa, though obviously most people do take advantage of the comparatively rare opportunity in Britain to sauna as they should be taken; in the way that is routine in Europe. I do not intend to get into an argument with someone who cannot be wrong, and cannot see that other people may have a differing opinion to their own. I have much better things to do with my time.
However, I will challenge you 100% on the Clover being no 1 for Birmingham. I can categorically assure you that it never, ever was. You are wholly mistaken, although I appreciate you will not accept that you could be.

I agree with you Tommo. The issue isn't that it's a naturist hotel, it's that they didn't know beforehand, and would probably not have chosen to go there. I can't see why they should have been expected to recognise Tim - and they obviously didn't.
Spas are popular so I'm not sure where our 'problem' is supposed to be. If they don't fancy the idea of taking their clothes off in public, that's their prerogative, surely.

I don't mind serving myself because that way I know I will get what I want without having to wait. The difference for me being however the variety and quality of the breakfast items on offer, this place offered nice stuff. That said though, the only drawback for me with the serve-yourself option would be my stay coinciding with guests who behave like a plague of locusts at a buffet spread. Going by my own past experiences the British and the Spanish are the worst for such behaviour.

Thankyou Tuppencehapenny. The previous contributor also said that there would be no naked people, as no-one else would be staying. Yet Tim made it quite clear he will be naked. I would not want to be confronted by a naked proprietor, whether male or female.

Why is tolerance extended to everybody except naturists? He is in his own hotel. He abided by the dress code asked for previously. It would be absurd if he was clothed, as the idea is to demonstrate what your establishment is about! There is nothing confrontational about being naked in a naturist hotel.

I remember the venue on the Hotel Inspector and I was surprised to see it was high on TripAdvisor for hotels. Hits on Google mentioning it at one time being top hotel on Tripadvisor before a reorganisation on the site eg -

Also some hits on Google mentioning it was no 2 in Birmingham hotels when it appeared on Hotel Inspector, so it might have moved up and down.
I wouldn't be surprised if it could hit the top spot if it was still in hotels because it does achieve the full 5 TripAdvisor "bubbles" and the hotels in that spot now do not.

I can't comment on the Spain venue as I didn't see it, but I can't see how that's relevant here.
Like it or not, a lot of people don't want to be naked or see other naked people in public. That's their choice. Tim can of course go naked in his own place, and why not, but others obviously don't want to.

So I was not 'wrong' on the rating. Spain is relevant because Clover is not the first naturist place featured. Also Tim is not imposing any dress code, unlike somebody who insists on black tie. The other contestants have the choice to remain clothed, which predictably they will. As for not wanting to see someone naked, well there are many activities set up by the owners on the show that the others don't want to do or like...but it's the format.

I'm pretty sure there were no naked bodies around for the Spanish episode. It was just mentioned that they were naturist friendly.
As for you're last point - frequently owners have dipped out of the activity if they didn't want to take part.
It's not really the point on there being nakedness. Tim obviously has to show the spa facilities and if the others are not willing to follow the accepted dress code then he has to do so himself. Is honesty such a bad thing? He has invested a great deal of money in what at the time could have seemed a risky venture.

The B&B in Spain run by the two guys was not strictly a naturist establishment, although as they said , 'clothing is optional'
I have no objection to nudity in itself but I do think it is more hygienic in social settings for certain 'bits' to be 'encased'.
I am wondering if the host will answer the door au natural
