I sometimes think that the contestants don't realise that what they are judging is VALUE FOR MONEY, not all the other guff.

If a reasonably priced B&B offered a clean room and decent breakfast - they offer value for money - so what if the decor is a bit tired, or the hospitality tray doesn't have specialist drinks - you get what you pay for?

There was one a couple of series ago where the lady was offering B&B in a seaside town for £50 a night for two. All her rooms were ensuite and spotless, and her breakfast was pretty good for the price charged. The others marked her down for the size of the ensuites, the size of the rooms (because of the ensuites), the decor of the rooms and the quality of her breakfast meats. OK, I didn't stay there, but for the price in her location it was pretty good value for money, and most of the things she was marked down on were due to the critics personal tastes - not major things.

For all the faults, last week the campsite owners may have criticised the cheap site - but they realised that for a party of up to 6 people £48 a night was definitely value for money, even if the place wasn't to their personal taste......

Questions in parliament about the man. Hepker doesn't seem the type of person one would want to have dealings with!

PS Zane?

Yes but hun he has to comment doesnt he, I expect urged to do so by the producer and crew. Half of what you see on this programme is coerced and not like the people at all. I have met a lady who worked at Foxy last week, they were not impressed with the resultant programme not at all. There is tons of footage it was over 4 days, and a lot of it gets cut and you end up with people being made to look nothing like they really are.

I have actually gone off the programme now, as I really dont see how they do such a mix. It should be like for like. A 5 star hotel with a manager running it, is nothing like a simple 3 bedroomed B&B. Makes no sense.

Good grief! He also claims that he is a lawyer but I can find no evidence of that. Is he telling porkies?

I agree with you Carol. It should be about value for you money. I think the producers have lost the plot now though sadly.

I thought the camp site for 48.00 brilliant value (and had electricity), but they didnt even show half of what they really offer which was sad really. That probably got put on the cutting room floor.........

If it counts for anything, he's written a few legal books!

We have every reason to moan about Mike and he has provided them all. His comments to camera have been pretty obnoxious, and the complaint about the lack of green tea was absurd. That B&B charges about a third of what they do and it is ridiculous to expect something as specialised as green tea to be provided as standard. It was just another example of him trying to show how superior he is to the common uneducated folk whilst showing himself to be a tragic twerp.

Dead on. That aspect has been disregarded for a long time now. They pay less because they compare with their own property, pay less because there was no bath or there was a bath and no shower, they pay less because the decor was not to their liking...it is supposed to be about value for money according to the price charged. I have seen many properties on this show that offered great value for the prices charged that were seriously underpaid for reasons of personal dislike rather than consideration of actual value for money. One good example is that Scottish couple from the Highland Guesthouse who gave top marks on the feedback and then underpaid everyone by as much as £15-20. They won.

But as they would all say 'It's a competition'...yes, and one where the contestants constantly flout the most basic rule.

Good grief indeed.

In that case, according to the allegations, all the company's money, £650,000, was stolen by Mr. Hepker. The south Wales police carried out an investigation and found that there was a prima facie case to answer. The Director of Public Prosecutions saw the papers and found that there was a prima facie case to answer, but he then said that, as the bank account of that United Kingdom company was held in the Isle of Man, the criminal offence had been committed in the Isle of Man and the papers would be passed there.
In 1985--I believe in playing politics long--I wrote to the Chancellor of the Exchequer about a case called Supasave in which it was alleged that £1.5 million had been taken by Mr. Hepker.

Allegations of course... But I think we can probably conclude he's a nasty piece of work.

I know the one you mean. It just makes you wonder what on earth they expect for £25 each.

It does annoy me when they complain because it's a shower not a bath, or vice versa. That's personal preference. Actually, I can't use a bath, only a shower because of my arthritis, so I make sure I have a shower when I stay somewhere, but for most people either will do perfectly well.

Agreed. If they'd had green tea it would have been an inferior quality or he would have complained that they hadn't got another type of specialty tea. Let's see what Lord and Lady Muck have at their place!

This Lord "I'm better educated than anyone else here" Muck, should take a leaf out of the man last week who also lived in a tower. He was the epitome of class in my opinion.
