I'm a bit behind the episode but I agree with Mary she was not a host. Also it's 190 quid to basically do everything yourself. No chance would I pay that.

I did not realise that they had 20 rooms. In that case decaff tea and granary toast should be available and they should have dealt with the decaff tea request made at reception far more professionally. I wonder if normally reception staff would have dealt with a customer request and the fail was because it was the women on reception instead.

It's her USP, I suppose. Bring who you like and we won't be there to notice - unless you want us to be. It's an interesting approach and if she can make it work - get a good living from the idea - good for her. I suspect the hosting part is mostly dealt with pre-arrival making sure that the person booking gets all those little "extras" that will make the stay really memorable... and which weren't suitable for showing on teatime tele. Ahem. e2a: I'd have enjoyed seeing mMary's face if she'd found a Jessica Rabbit (mint in box!) in a drawer.

It will be lost on mMary but Kathy has come across very well all week, I think, so if someone is in her target market, she may achieve exactly what she wants with her appearance on FiaB even if she comes last.

I agree. She could have taken the romance thing further - heart shaped biscuits or fudge or similar, a bowl of (passion?)fruit, a half-bottle of Champagne (or at least a good fizzy wine) on the breakfast tray. Though she probably does provide all that - at extra cost.

I thought it was a very weird set up. Yes, no point to having the kitchen unless you are staying the week but not at them prices I doubt.

I understand Kathy's concept - and we saw that it really does go down well with a lovey Dover couple like Colin and Liz who really loved their stay!

I didn't get the complete lack of interaction though it wouldn't have hurt to give people the keys to their suites (giving them the option to just get their own keys if that was what they wanted.....). Ii think she should offer them the option at booking, of complete privacy but not assume that everyone wants that.

She could also offer romantic continental breakies in room, and a cooked option in the dining room if that's what people wanted.... But either way - her prices are outrageous!

Well that all felt very flat to me

I think Nick's put it right on the money

I reckon she thinks people will pay over the odds for 'discretion assured'
Perhaps people rock up there with a bag of 'Dine in for Two' to warm through - if they've got the energy left.

I'd like to see Mary's critique in full.
I saw something about 'changed bedlinen on request' and also in the breakfast section something about 'cheeky supplements'
Wonder what all that was about?

Hi all, just to explain some things as I'm no longer joining in.

I have not reported anyone for anything. Why would I report us having a discussion?
Who was banned? I doubt anyone was.

My main beef was how after slating Cathy and Alex, you all, almost all, rolled over and greeted Alex like he was the second coming.

I can't find my post supporting hoppy, where I said Alex was a creep basically. Maybe it was me who was banned. I don't know as my life doesn't revolve around forums.

My comment on this week is; As Cathy is so open, why didn't she declare themselves as a couple?

Obvious when she told her friend as she blended in to the bed, "difficult to find me."

Anyway, have a lovely Christmas all.

Unlike a few (very few!) participants on the show, Alex, Millie, even Kathy, didn't come across as evil people intent on world domination. I think it was far more interesting to get info on the background of the show rather than criticise what they had / hadn't said or done on the show especially as comments along those lines had been made at the time.

You can refer to their post in pretty much whatever terms you like - but you can't make what might be considered an unacceptable personal reference to the poster.
It's the old 'attack the post - not the poster'. Get around it by choosing your words carefully.
Mind you, I laughed out loud at a post on another thread where a reference had been made to a singer that another poster didn't know and asked the op who he was - the reply was 'google him - ya lazy git!'

I know they have to show the B&B as they run it but knowing she'd be marked on it you'd think Cathy would have been a bit more of a host. Her place looked quite nice - bathrooms especially - and I suppose if you're one of those couples in a stage where you're immobilised by your love/lust then you might not mind the hands off approach and a "eat it in bed" breakfast.

I love your phrase immobilised by lust! Does breakfast in bed with my cat count?

I'm guessing that Mary gave them a massive under-payment. Mind you the rooms are pretty pricey for a do-it-yourself breakfast.

As was said by others, maybe people are paying for the discretion. Or indiscretions as it were.

What you do in the privacy of your own home is your business.

I dunno about the cat, but I was also going to shout hurrah at 'immobilised by lust' and I may well try and drop that phrase into conversation over Christmas

That's a shame Mutter.
I don't think people rolled over for Alex, more that as he was polite, some people responded likewise. I didn't find him creepy and I don't feel as though he's his mother's keeper (or apologist)and he said he disagreed with her on a fair few things.
All in all I think the most obvious issues were raised with him and with Millie, but I also don't think there was any malice meant in their week (apart from perhaps the final payment in coins - and some saw that as fair game) so I probably didn't have as big an issue as people who saw it differently.
That's not to say that I was a supporter - I think my comments made that clear at the time.

Not sure about what you mean with Cathy? her friend (whose name I forget) mentioned her husband on tonight's show, or at least I think she did?
I thought they're just mates?

Merry Christmas to you too.

I think so, but a couple of hundred quid plus will surely buy you anonymity in some pretty fine establishments
Not that I've ever tested that theory out mind Now I keep thinking of the wedding episode of Gavin and Stacey where Pete and Dawn role play I might have a word with OH*

*probably not
