A very good 4.7% All Day share for Five yesterday, topping Four's 4.4%.

Most likely source of the ratings boost was daytime with the Christmas movies. Hopefully primetime wasn't a disaster though, it was a decent lineup.

On the day Jonathan Ross got his best ratings for Itv, reports are saying he is soon set to quit the channel and television altogether: http://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/late...n-the-industry

A little bit from the article:
Quote:
“On ITV, The Jonathan Ross Show struggled to pull in big ratings when it was launched but he claims audience figures are now better than ever.

At the PlayStation 4 unveiling in London last week, he said: “I’m averaging more now than I was at the BBC. When I was on Friday night on the BBC there wasn’t much against us but now I’m on ITV we’re up against Match of the Day and *Casualty – both big shows.

“It’s not easy because we’re not at the same time each week. It’s 9.15pm one week and 10.15 the next.

“And on a Saturday night there’s much tougher competition.

“When I went over, the figures weren’t as strong and I knew they wouldn’t be because of the slot. You have to build it up and people have to know who you are.””

So, it could go from the highest rating to the lowest in a blink of an eye!

We'll see. He's just after a pay rise. He gets far less at ITV than he got on the BBC so he probably thinks he's worth more...............again!

Do you know what this place reminds me of every Sunday now? It's just like after a by-election, local elections, where all the parties claim they've done better than expected, and the other party needs to worry about the results.

Both shows are doing okay, and I still won't watch a minute of either of 'em.

He already extended his contract back in July for 2014.

I don't know, it's a massive unknown quantity, I think most of the traditional timeshifters will watch live, it's properly event TV for anyone with even a passing interest will be watching (and that includes me) It could top the night, unlikely, but it could (and I really hope it does!)

* peak: 9.43m (40.4%) inc +1 at 20:55

21:35 - The Jonathan Ross Show: 4.6m inc +1
* I think this is for the full slot (21:30-)

Rugby peaks

There is one guest missing from that list: Michelle Keegan from Corrie will also be on Ross next week, according to Digiguide.

Someone asked for the latest ratings for Sunday morning shows. Sunday Morning Live does well for a religion/ethics discussion show. Both that and Sunday Politics are beating ITV's new entertainment shows.

I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here opening overnight ratings
Series 1 (2002): 6.4m (33%)
Series 2 (2003): 10.0m (46%)
Series 3 (2004): 10.1m (n/a%)
Series 4 (2004): 9.0m (35%)
Series 5 (2005): 9.5m (38%)
Series 6 (2006): 8.9m (38%)
Series 7 (2007): 8.7m (38%)
Series 8 (2008): 8.9m (35%)
Series 9 (2009): 9.8m (36%)
Series 10 (2010): 11.2m (38%)
Series 11 (2011): 11.8m (44%) inc +1
Series 12 (2012): 10.6m (42%) inc +1

As always, anything between 10 million and 11.5 million, most likely mid 10 million's is a solid guess.

Last year's series was officially the second most watched series ever:

11.02m: Series 3 (2004)
9.81m: Series 12 (2012)
9.74m: Series 11 (2011)
9.70m: Series 10 (2010)
9.42m: Series 5 (2005)
9.37m: Series 9 (2009)
8.78m: Series 8 (2008)
8.66m: Series 4 (2004)
8.55m: Series 2 (2003)
8.01m: Series 6 (2006)
7.58m: Series 1 (2002)
7.34m: Series 7 (2007)

Aside from a blip around 2006 and 2007, it has consistently recorded a series average above 9 million. As we always do every year, people predict its demise and then it goes and does what it always does. And kudos to ITV, it has never been overexposed, which is why it has lasted so long.

Tonights opener could easily 12m due to uninspiring BBC1 opposition.

Yeah tonight's opener probably has the weakest competition it's ever faced. It has also had a 4 week promotional campaign, which is more than ever before. So expect a record rating launch for it today, or at least its 2nd best rating lauinch.

That's why I never understand why people just defend certain channels on here and pigeonhole different types of viewers to certain programmes - it's really stereotypical. There are a lot of good shows out there, spread over various channels and it's a shame if no one gives a show a chance because of the channel it's on.

A lot of regular viewers out there will watch programmes of varying genres, on any channel if they are aware that they're on and they look appealing - marketing and advertising is the key here.

Me neither.

Generally speaking The X Factor and Doctor Who audiences are mostly separate.

If there were any current plans to launch new idents, they would obviously wait for the new year now.

Brilliant rating for Strictly, shame it's up against Corrie tonight but should still get over 9m. The episode up against Corrie, later in the series, got 9.31m last year.

The peak should be even higher next week, with those who don't watch Strictly tuning in ready for Doctor Who, which could rate anywhere between 7 and 10 million imo. The BBC have done a great job promoting it, despite complaints just last month that they were ignoring it.

I know everybody on here hated them but I actually really liked last year's, they were simple and elegant and unlike like most Christmas idents I didn't get bored of them. Hope this year's are more to everybody's taste if only so that I don't have to read people moaning about them for 2/3 weeks.

It lasts because ITV have never felt the need, like Channel 4 with BB, to run it into the ground. Three weeks is enough. Also for such an old show, the ratings continue to amaze. I'd say 10.5 million for tonight and a series average of 9 million.
Personally I'd rather drink anti freeze than watch this, but you can't argue with the ratings.

Last years idents were indeed simplistic but I think people were shocked by them because until last year since about 2000, idents were lavish and bold productions. Last year went back to basics like they were in the 90's. Infact 1996's ident was possibly one of the dullest if you compare that to the 1996 trails that featured circus acrobats in animation.
