Why do people think that Twitter can fix the problem of online abuse?

Its only for one part of it. I've done a lot but I'm not totally finished. I'd better not pull a Doreen

I have no idea, I think social media in general just invites trouble.

I think the problem is thick people rather than social media

I think it does and that's why I stay away from it unless I'm snooping on someone Facebook is the worst. Words cannot describe how much I despise that site.

The issue is anonymity, people think they can say whatever, and seemingly receive no retribution. Two of my friends got into an argument on Monday after something she posted jokingly was taken out of context. It's just dangerous sometimes

I've heard about that sort of thing happening. You also have to make sure that what you say isn't libellous or could be construed as libellous. In fact here in Ireland there was talk of updating the Defamation Act 2009 to include online libel as Irish law doesn't really have any provisions related to it.

Afternoon.

I've got a rotten cold. Ergh! I hate being ill.

I'm listening to Emeli Sande's album at the moment (the deluxe edition). She is somebody that I've wanted to like for a long time but I couldn't stand radio over-playing her stuff. It's not her fault, but it just meant that I got bored of her music before even getting the chance to appreciate or enjoy it. Now that we've had a break from it for a while, I'm finding myself enjoying her album.

Hope you're all well.

Afternoon Mimi! I know how you feel about Emeli Sande. She was shoved down our throats a lot in 2012 and even last year. Remember her Olympics performance? Her music isn't my thing really but I can appreciate she's talented. I've got some good news - Dustbin Beaver has been arrested! Mum just rang me to tell me.

Just saw this on the Music page.

Patti Labelle says that today's "divas" can't sing..."

She doesn't mention names. I hate the term "diva", she's right in saying that it's a word that gets thrown around a lot. It doesn't really mean anything anymore.

Yes, the Olympics over-used her music. It's a double edged sword, really. It's great for her and the record company because it gets her name recognised and therefore she earns lots of money from it but it also provides a ton of pressure for the follow up album. See Adele, for example. I'm intrigued to see how Adele's next album performs. I might be able to enjoy her music seeing as she's taken a break for a while.

Justin Bieber seems to be out of control at the moment. I would have a little more sympathy if he wasn't so arrogant. He needs to be brought back down to earth and fast. There is absolutely no need for arrogance. I don't care how talented you are, there is no reason in the world to treat people badly.

I think my dislike for Emeli sprang from the fact she seemed like an Adele stand in, with little or no personality of her own. And in fairness her music is kind of drab ;o

The other problem with overexposure of an artist is that it turns the general public against them. I hate it when they're shoved in our faces and hyped so much. Look at 1D. I (and probably loads of others) think they're a bunch of talentless halfwits and they're shoved in our faces all the time. You can't escape them!

I don't have any sympathy for him at all. He's an arrogant little twit who needs to be taken down a peg or two. Too many celebs think they're above the law and they're not. One of my lecturers said that the law applies to everyone in society no matter what their status is. I would agree with that. I kinda hope they do the world (and music scene) a favour and lock him up and throw away the key

Afternoon HM!

I do agree with your point, CNBC. He's escaped being arrested a few times. It says on the arrest papers that he was also driving with a suspending license. I hope that he gets into some serious trouble for that.

I'd say he only escaped being arrested because he thinks he's above the law. It was probably a classic case of 'do you know who I am?". Either way he deserves it. The music scene will be a better place without his tuneless karaoke rubbish clogging up the charts.

Apparently he did resist arrest. What an idiot...

The thing is though, does anyone know any of his music aside from the atrocious "Baby"?...There are groups and singers who I am not a fan of, but I'm able to name some of their music. The same cannot be said for Justin Bieber...

Yeah he thought he could get away with it. Not any more. They need to throw the book at him. I could name about 4 of his songs:

Baby
Beauty and a Beat
All Bad
Boyfriend

Beiber like all celebrities and monied few will get away with it, there is no retribution as they have the infinite resources and money to evade the law.

What's wrong with your iPad?

Unfortunately What about his crimes against music? Should he be allowed to get away with those as well? Anyway I'm in Equity at the moment and my Labour Law lecturer is also my Equity lecturer this semester I need a disguise
