Help with Security

Please....

I have made a terrible mistake

I needed some help with my ipad and phoned what I thought was Apple support. It turned out not to be.
The thing is I let them have remote access to my iMac and I-pad.
I realised it wasn't Apple when they asked for payment for a 12 month tech support contarct. When I refused , they got annoyed and hung up on me.
I have changed my passwords but I'm not sure whether they will be able to access anything or will have copied whats on my computer, itunes, icloud ?
Is there something else I need to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated

If they got you to install anything to get remote access then uninstall it.

I didn't install anything ( as far as I know) I clicked on a link which asked me to authorise remote assistance

(Thanks for the advice)

That might have tried to install something in the background. Would be worth checking to see if there are any odd looking applications listed or processes running that you don't recognise.

Cheers

Couldn't see anything. Went through recent items and couldn't see anything untoward ( I'm new to Apple devices so haven't any experience of how to look. )

You probably wont want to hear this, but really the only way you can be certain the system is no longer compromised would be to wipe the drive and reinstall OS X. Personally I would say the hour or 2 doing that would be worth the peace of mind but obviously its your call.

This (should) put my mind at ease. How easy is it to do this ?

Do I need to do it on my i-pad as well which was connected to my i-mac. Also does it affect my i-cloud ?

Sorry for all the questions but i'm not very knowledgable about these things

you could ask the real apple guys for help? I'm sure they would have some useful advice at their tech bar

Are you sure you didn't actually call Apple support and they tried to make you sign up with Apple Care?

Thanks for all the tips guys. Much appreciated

All sorted out now after speaking with Apple.

(It was a company called i-yogi apparently that are well known to Apple. Nothing they do is illegal but they are nothing to do with Apple)

Panic over
