Digital Square – Episode 1
Opening Titles
Birds tweeted and the wind rustled as Frank Green stepped out of The Oak Barn and pinned a giant red sign saying “OAK BARN REOPENING TONIGHT”. Ena popped out of the barn and smiled at Frank. “Tonight’s going to be great” Ena smiled. “I got a lot riding on this, we can’t allow any mistakes” Frank replied. “We gotta clear out that basement sometime love, I was thinking turn it into a party room or something” Frank said. “No love, let’s leave it for a while, I’ll fetch some drinks” Ena replied. Frank walked off to Little Haven for a coffee whilst Ena stepped inside the wooden and cosy barn and walked down into the basement. She blew the dust of a barrel of wine and slowly walked to the far corner of the basement. She looked at a black bin bag about the size of a person and quickly swept upstairs with the drinks.
Meanwhile at Little Haven Amy Trent and Josh Murphy was drinking tea whilst chatting. “So who are you?” Josh asked. “If fine Josh” Amy replied. Josh scowled as he replied “I mean the attack, who are you doing?”. “Josh, can you just leave it!” Amy yelled. Josh backed into his chair and scowled into his mug. “I’m sorry Josh, I can’t cope, ma mind is messed up and its driving me insane” Amy burst out into tears and Josh put his arm around her. “You’ll cope, you always do” Josh began to blush not Amy could see but Damien noticed his rosy cheeks from his table. “Thanks Josh, I better get back to the spa”. Amy swept off as Damien sat down opposite Josh. “I reckon you’re in there mate” Damien said as he nudged Josh. Josh stumbled on his reply as he said “What do you mean? Were just friends”. Damien has a grin on his face as he told Josh “Comfort here and play it all cool. She’ll come running back”. Josh sounded angry “I don’t want her to come running back” Josh sighed as he spoke again. “Is it that obvious?”
“Yep” Damien smiled “You best go help here with the girly spa crap”. Leo looked onwards from where he was talking with Rosanna. “It’s not crap , its beauty.” Leo smirked. Damien sniffed as he said “only a queer would visit that shack”. Leo frowned as Rosanna spoke. “I never thought you showed much interest in beauty” Rosanna grinned. “I’m not, it’s just that, well, it’s not a shack is it?” Leo frowned. Rosanna spoke after downing the rest of her cappuccino “If you say so” she said cheerily as she walked off.
Diane Longstaff knocked on the door of 23 Digital Square and a smile erupted on Martha’s face as she opened the door. “Diane, you never said you were coming today”. “Thought I’d surprise you, where Chris?” Diane asked. “He’s at the gym” Martha answered. Diane’s smiled sunk as she realise it was the memorial gym for Chad. “Well I best go pay him a visit” Diane smiled again as she left.
“That was close” Frank Green sighed. “Well we were only having coffee” Martha said. “How would Ena react if she knew I was here instead of helping here? Damn! I gotta go; I’ve got to help here with the reopening of the pub”. Frank said as he ran off. “I’ll be there” Martha teased.
Over at Total Fitness Chris was overseeing Damien who was shirtless and completing a tough gym session. “And that’s time” Chris told him as he stopped his stopwatch. Damien hopped of the exercise bike and headed to the shower room as Diane passed him and gave him a wink. “Sis, oh my god, it’s great to see you!” Chris yelled. “By the look of things, you’re doing great” Diane smiled. The pair hugged as Rosanna crept into the shower room. “What the hell Rosanna!?” Damien screams as he covered his privates with a towel. Rosanna threw to towel off him as the pair began to kiss heavily.
Diane Longstaff nosed around the gym and saw Leo sitting alone and sat down opposite him. “All alone huh?” Diane said sympathetically. “Well my sort of friend is currently shagging my other friend so alls good.” Leo replied sarcastically. “Why does that make you feel sad? Oh wait it’s because your gay”. Diane teased. “I’m not gay” Leo whispered “Bisexual actually, and you can’t tell anyone”. “Sure” Diane smirked as she walked off.
Rob Price looked up from his copy of the Daily Mail and sighed. His mother was coming to live with him today; he was dreading the doorbell ringing. The doorbell rung and Wendy stood at the door beaming. “Look at you son” she beamed “all grown up now eh. I guess this is a new start for us all.” “Us all?” Rob asked. “Oh I forgot, Joel is joining us, isn’t that exciting?”. “Exciting? I hate Joel.” Rob yelled. Joel stood in the doorway with his suitcase and breathed as he said “Long time no see eh?”
“Well my wife and my kids died and she was pregnant, we were starting a family and you didn’t give a damn. My unborn child died and my kids were so little. Get out Joel” Rob screamed and was close to tears. “Now Rob, that wasn’t very kind was it? Let’s get inside and make me a brew” Wendy said.
Wendy lifted her suitcase up the stairs and Joel stood against the wall in Rob’s living room which had only one chair. Rob was in a mood and begun muttering words such as “git, idiot and selfish cow”. Wendy lifted open her floral suitcase and removed £50,000 all in packaged up and hid it under her bed. She returned downstairs where the mood was dim and Rob’s telly was blaring out the news. “Rob, come here” Wendy demanded. Rob shuffled into the living room with drinks which Wendy raised into the air. “To new beginnings” Wendy beamed. “New beginnings” Rob and Joel both sighed.
Frank returned to the Oak Barn to find a mass of guests outside including Rosanna, Damien, Leo, Chris, Amy, Josh, Martha and Diane. “Where have you been love? We’ve had guests waiting” Ena huffed. She raised a pair of scissors and cut a line of red ribbon and said “Welcome to the Oak Barn opening”. Guests poured in as Becky stepped inside followed by her mother Hilda. “Hilda, you don’t need to follow me” Becky sighed. “I’m just making sure you’re not alone darling, you’ve got no one looking after you” Hilda replied. “That’s because you scared them all off” Becky yelled. Hilda looked around the cosy pub as Becky said “Are you jealous Hilda? Bet you wish you could have a place like this” Becky teased. “It’s a nice place, I’ll give them that but who knows what’s around here, and you call me mother” Hilda said “You need a man love; he’d keep you in shape”. Hilda said stubbornly. “Eh, look at him, look at his biceps” Hilda said admiringly. “Go get him” Hilda grinned “Or I might have a go” she joked. Hilda left their table to get a drink as Scott come over.
“I saw your mum leering over me” Scott teased. “I’m not interested” Becky said although there was an obvious hint of falseness in her voice. “Shame, I like girls like you” Scott said “How about we get out of here whilst you ma gets the drinks and make a dash for it, who knows where things may end up”. Scott said flirtingly. Scott and Becky quickly got up from their seats and faced each other. They stood in silence for a few seconds they the pair dived in and begun to kiss. Scott broke off, took Becky’s hand and led her into a cab. They continued to kiss as the cab drove them down the road.
Hilda returned from the bar to her table and Martha came over to her. “Ena wants us down in the basement” Martha said panicky. Hilda sounded surprised “Why, it’s not to do with you know what?” The pair rushed off and hopped down to the basement.
Wendy sat up from her chair and said “How about we go to the new pub reopening thingy?” Rob growled “Really? The Oak Barn’s crap. End of. I’m going for a shower”. Rob left as Wendy asked Joel “Are you coming son?” “I’ll see you there” Joel replied. Wendy said “You two behave yourself”. The door slammed shut.
Over in 2B Digital Square Scott and Becky emerged from underneath the duvet and begun to kiss. “I’ve always said that I like girls like you” Scott grinned. The pair descended back underneath the duvet giggling.
Meanwhile as Joel heard the door slam he ran up to the bathroom and knocked on the door. Rob opened the door dressed in a hand towel and said “What”. “You know what brother, don’t pull the sorry little me act, mum’s trying to start again but dragging us all down”. “Well I’m sorry” Rob screamed as he stepped out of the bathroom and continued then yelled “My kids and wife are dead and now I’ve got you and mum in my face every day, can you. Leave. Me. Alone”. Joel swept out of the house as Rob went back into the shower as he swept the curtain across and threw the towel away.
Down in the Oak Barn basement Hilda, Martha and Ena were whispering. “We can’t keep him here much longer” Ena demanded. “Why? He’s been here for 30 years, why can’t he stay here for 30 more?” Martha said. “Frank wants to revamp this place, where is he going to go then?” Ena said and was shaking. “It was you who landed the final hit Martha; it’s mostly your fault!” Hilda screamed. “He’s buried in Ena’s pub” Martha screamed back. “Ladies, let’s not argue, we need to move the body but where to?” Ena said sounding out of breath and Diane Longstaff was standing behind the wall and had heard every word.
