Bruce's backhanded compliment made me cringe.

Did anyone else feel uncomfortable when Bruce told Mark his jive was "good for someone of his weight". It felt a bit off key to me and I thought Mark looked really uncomfortable with him saying it. Mark has been a revelation to me this series - I always imagined him to be like the characters he played - the brash clown - just shows how good an actor he is. He comes across in reality as a much more gentle sensitive nice family man. Happy birthday Mark and well done on a very enjoyable jive!

No because it IS difficult for a bigger person to move around quickly. Mark wasn't uncomfortable - he probably thought it was funny and he did well all things considered.

It was a nice sincere supportive and true comment.

Move on nothing to see here.

I thought it was well-intentioned, but totally tactless.

I think it was a genuine comment from Bruce and not meant at all in an offensive way.

Love MArk and don't imagine he would take offence where none was intended.

Yes, I totally agree, he made reference to Marks weight or size on more that one occasion. I doubt he meant it to be uncomplimentary but it was unnecessary and Mark seemed a little uncomfortable.

Agreed - I wasn't impressed by it.

About right IMO. Someone should tape Brucie's mouth shut. That or, preferably, Brucie retire. Please! Please, Brucie, retire!

I thought it was tactless. Bruce made me cringe so much tonight I think my back needs an epidural.

I agree with this whole heartedly. It's not the first time Bruce has made a comment on Mark's weight. Only a few weeks back I remember him patting Mark on the belly which IMO is totally inappropriate. I can only imagine the uproar if he passed any sort of comment on a female celeb's weight!

Thought his comments to Fiona showing her the "exits" from the show were a bit below the belt too. Some things just don't need to be said, but you can always rely on Bruce to say them.

Claudia was a breath of fresh air last week, and I hope she reappears before the end of the series.

I agree with the OP. I found his remarks tonight & 2weeks ago annoying & inappropriate. Stupid baffoon.

I can't remember him making the same comments to Lisa Riley. Everyone avoided mentioning her size.

Absolutely!

Mountains from molehills again

Tonights show was simply fantastic from beginning to end imo.

I didn't like Bruce's comment about Mark's weight; I don't think he meant to be unkind, I'm sure he genuinely thought he was giving Mark a compliment, but big people do not appreciate having their size referred to in such a way. [Most big people, that is, no doubt there's a few exceptions!]

Apart from that, it isn't Bruce's place to comment on the dancers, that's the judges job and Bruce should keep quiet.

For me, Bruce is SO far past his sell by date that he ceased to shock me years ago-it's just what I expect, sadly!

he meant well, and mark seemed to appreciate it, but for the first time i began to feel a bit concerned that mark expects to be marked for 'entertainingness' (which it was) rather than for dancing (which wasn't great, certainly the poorest of the night, except maybe fiona)

I thought it was unnecessary, rather tactless and missed the point just a bit - I'd think whatever is wrong with his knees hindered him rather more than his weight did, considering the massive knee supports he was wearing in training.

Fat chance of that!

(sorry if my use of the word "fat" is found offensive by anyone)

Tactless is exactly the word I was looking for, thanks. I have no doubt he meant well, just wish he hadn't said it. And I agree, I think tonight's show was excellent.

thats true actually, i forget about his knees because he doesn't make any fuss about it, and it never gets reported to us. although the strain on his knees could be due to weight anyway, i guess?

Mark looked so awkward after Bruce's comments He never brings up his size (he might have done once right at the start, but not since), so nor should anyone else.

This is how I saw it too. Just wanted him to shut up

Totally agree about the cringe. Mark's limitations in the jive were obvious, as were the reasons. Did not need pointing out by the well-past-sell-by-date dinosaur - no matter how well meaning!

When Bruce payed Mark the backhanded compliment, Mark was getting an absolute roasting from Craig and Bruce interjected because I thing he thought Mark needed support.

After the comment you could clearly see Mark thank Bruce for his support.
