Cant expect someone of Bruce's age to be politically correct. He comes from a time when people said it like it was. My mum used to say some real cringeworthy things. My older sister is not even old and she says cringe worthy things but thinks she is paying someone a compliment. She only realises she has said the wrong thing when it is pointed out to her.

Don't disagree, but your mum wasn't on "prime-time" TV and being paid a fortune, was she?

Ditto

Mark should have responded that Bruce's presentation is not too bad for a senile, tactless old has-been

I know But I was thinking about his age. I am remember this

And yes you're right he does get paid a fortune. He needs to pay out of his pocket to have professional development.

I thought it made Mark feel uncomfortable which made me feel uncomfortable.
Time for Bruce to retire.

Mark is too nice to belittle Bruce

I thought Bruce used the word size not weight. He has said the same thing to the tall contestants in previous years. Hardly a big deal.

How young do you have to be politically correct?

Mark is only a couple of years younger than me and I'm not entirely pc.

As I said on the other thread ...

He seemed to be able to raise his legs higher and faster than Sophie when she did the jive.

He was just a bit "stompy", which Craig says about a lot of the bigger build, male contestants.

Well thats you then, but from my experience I have found the older generation to say things like they are and in turn appear to be politically incorrect. If you wish to be that, its your choice. But I know that in my job if I said anything like that I would be reprimanded or sent on training. Rightly too IMO.

When at work most people are expected to kowtow.

Quote:
“Kowtow came into English in the early 19th century to describe the bow itself, but its meaning soon shifted to describe any abject submission or grovelling”

Politeness used to be sufficient. Now one seems to have to be two faced as well.

Some people want to find offence in everything they see. It was a supportive remark, which was clearly appreciated by the recipient. End of.

Well some people say really nasty things and convince themselves they are being helpful and supportive. Some of the comments Bruce makes are a bit below the belt. I wasnt too happy with Bruce's attitude towards Laila in 2009. IMO I know he is old but can learn . As commented on here, he gets paid megabucks. The least he could do is not make any comments that might cause offence to not only the contestant but the viewers. We live in an ever changing world and as adults are role models for the young.

A London Evening Standard article from last week.

Strictly Come Dancing favourite Natalie Gumede faints twice in rehearsals

Quote:
“Ben Cohen and partner Kristina Rihanoff jived to Jump Jive An' Wail by Floor Orchestra, winning 26 points from the judges.

Goodman said the rugby player's performance was "a bit like a trifle" but acknowledged that "the jive is a hard dance, especially for big guys".”

Ben is tall and muscular rather than having a larger waist.

From 2010 .. 'Dancing with the Stars' Live Recap: Week 2 Dances

Quote:
“Rick Fox and Cheryl Burke
Dancing the jive to "Tush"

Judges' Opinions:
Len: "It was compact, it was fun, it was full of energy! If you can dance a jive... you could become a contender."
Bruno: "It's like trying to get a California condor to dance with a hummingbird! And you did it!"
Carrie Ann: "For a big guy like yourself, it's hard to do with the jive."”

Yes, no mean effort, as to me he seemed to be dancing in Wellingtons.

You may well think that and we are all entitled to our own opinion.
I do get the impression though that there is a squad of people dissecting every word and mannerism of an 85 year old man presenting a peak time live television show to 10 million people.
This thread isn't about Mark or one (for me) inoffensive statement of fact-its simply another chance to persecute Sir Bruce for those who seem to take infinite glee in doing it. That's all it is.

Yes, I guess that's what you could say about people who can see that generally speaking, he's losing his cognitive faculties, he's become irascible, irritable, impatient, bad mannered and unable to keep up with the pace of the of show which manages quite well, or better in his absence and it's time he retired.

Is that less of a "dissection" for you?

How rude. And disrespectful. Whether people like it or not he is the presenter and does a good job most of the time. The Beeb obviously agree otherwise they'd get rid. And they haven't . I'm not a massive fan of Brucies particularly but I like him on this show - fluffs and all. Blimey some people on this forum really need to chill out and get their stress levels down. It's only a TV show at the end of the day

I'd suggest it's you who are getting a bit stressed. many others consider Bruce a bit of a joke these days and feel amused by some of the posts "expressing undying devotion" to the old codger.

You have to earn respect when you're paid all that licence money, you don't actually deserve it from repeating the same act you've been doing for fifty years and now often performing badly.

He's "destroying his legacy" what there was of it and I find that quite sad.

Maybe someone will respond that the top of Bruce's head looks like it is sponsored by Remnant Carpets.

Oh dear. Try not to worry about it . I think he's earned his respect for still doing prime time shows for goodness knows how many years. But hey ho . And no dear, I don't get stressed about these things . Far from it. I think there are more important things to get your knickers in a twist about to be honest.

Glad to hear you're not getting too upset about adverse comments about someone on TV you admire.
