DMR-BWT720 channel updating.
For the last week, every time I turn on the DMR-BWT720 it wants to update the channels. The message "New channels available". I have been doing this, but have got a bit suspicious, as it doesn't seem to be very likely that there are that many new channels about and added every day. The last couple of updates I have had a quick look through and I can't see any changes.
I know I can switch the notification off, but wonder what is going on. I suspect the unit has got it's knickers in a twist, and have tried unplugging it for a while but no luck. Anybody got an idea as to what is happening. Or are there that many new channels. |

Do a check to see if you have some channels stored in the 800s. If there are some you are in the same boat as my brother who lives in a part of North Yorkshire where his aerial can pick strong-enough signals from more than one transmitter feeding his DMR-XW350. He switches off the notifications for sanity's sake aand retunes occasionally - next retune'll be 10th December 2013 for the changes to HD.

Come to think of it, my brother might have the '380! It's been a while.

Anybody got an idea as to what is happening. Or are there that many new channels. Although it can be triggered by a genuine new channel, the most common reason for the message is due to the machine picking up remote transmitters not intended for you. This fools the machine into thinking there are new channels available when they are in fact just duplicates of existing channels. This has become more of a problem since the digital switch over when the analogue stations were switched off and digital transmission power was increased, making it more likely to receive remote transmitters. The solution is to turn off the notification message. Go to Functions / Setup / Tuning menu / New Channel message and change it to OFF. |
