Do people use that term that often? I hadn't noticed. I must be hanging out in the wrong threads.

But in any case, I'm not sure what this type of thread achieves, edy? To my mind it reinforces divisions rather than reducing or removing them. It doesn't tend to change the behaviour of people using those terms.

If that was me sorry

I wasn't trying to demonstrate what was wrong really. I simply wanted people to understand the physics or biomechanics that makes Argentine Tango work. I love the dance and it saddens me to see it compromised.
I know that you are a big AT enthusiast, and that you are never biased or personal in your comments and so you should not feel embarrassed or apologetic.

Why would anyone hate a Strictly contestant anyway?

Especially when they seem to be a really nice bunch this year.

On the whole it mystifies me I was going to say for everyone, but I have to admit I did / do hate Anne Widdecome for he damage she did to this world, but I have never hated anyone on the programme for how they dance.

Sometimes I like the person but am not at all keen on their dancing, Ben this year.

Sometimes I am not so keen on the person but appreciate their dancing , Abbey for me this year.

Sometimes I like them in real life but not so much on the show , Susanna this year

But beyond Anne Widdecome I have never hated a SCD contestant

Some of them have little things that I don't like too but that's it. Some I like more than others. Never hate.

This is the first time I have been called reasonable, well on DS anyway

I did notice but it's no big deal so no need for apologies It soon sorts itself out. It looks like it already has.

I don't get either end of the scale, not the devoted fandom or the rather personal sniping that others do. Its just a telly show.

Quite. They are / were all likeable.

I was borderline sceptical* of a couple of the semi-finalists last year but realised that was very silly of me.

This year I am not rooting for or against anyone but have a few favourites but haven't got around to vote even if it is free online.

* The current terminology for "Hater" is "Sceptic" as in "Eurosceptic"

Yes, even worse is that phrase "haters gonna hate"..pathetic in my opinion.
Yes it is terrible. I hate "gonna" with a passion ...

Pretty sure I've never said I hate anyone - certainly hope not.

But I will have gone as far as 'I can't stand...'. If I have, it's about a particular habit or quality rather than the person as a whole. And it would usually be me getting carried away in a particularly, erm... 'lively' discussion.

To me, that's expressing a degree of irritation that I accept is entirely my own gut reaction and not a rational judgement on anyone or anything. I hope it would be understood that way but I'm just asking about it because, if any FMs think that's too unpleasant, fair enough and I'll watch my step in future.

Yes, saw the last weekend someone writing a page long essay about what was wrong with someone's dance

(perhaps you have come across it)

It does scare me a bit. I don't engage much with either Susanna or Natalie, but to go about writing so much about someone you truly don't care about is a tad bit odd (to say the least).

Personally, i just shrug and move along. Perhaps to do with their being so many beautiful/competitive girls this year and it becomes some sort of sorority battle
That would be the most interesting part of the forum IMHO. In name SCD is about dance even if it is really about celebrity personality gossip and what record they are bringing out or where (Manchester / Grimbsy / Essex) they come from.

Personally I am not in the slightest bit interested in the celebrities' back stories or accent (Posh jolly hockey Sticks / Scouse / Essex). I am, however, interested in the occasional far too brief "long essay" on a dance.

People write essays here about all sorts of things not connected with dance. Writing about dance occasionally brings a little bit of balance.

Nothing to apologise for . I don't think it's your post he was referring too .

Admits I also hated Widdicomb for her beliefs on most things. and actually caught myself the year she was on been quite awefull, checked myself and have not done it since. Im of the same opinion as you on the way I look at people who are on the show.

Depends on the tone, for me. Constructively critical technical stuff I generally take as a sign of genuine expertise. Sniping because "I dance with the world champion twice a week, in fact I taught him/her everything they know, and therefore if I tell you X looks like a hippo, you will bow down to me" not so much.

Thanks both kind of you both to comment as you did. I do have a tendency to be wordy - its the frustrated academic in me. So it was the mention of an essay length post that resonated - if only I had a pound for every time I had heard that! .

Well done for getting it off! Fantastic moment

I'm still working on my blummin' thing. Not fair. My true natural state is mooching around in wellies and muck, preferably without speaking for a couple of weeks. All wordiness comes out of daftness or forgetfulness or yokelness.

(Eep, another wicket just gone down
Carberry gone. 87/4.)

So disheartening. But then we never win in Queensland.

(Can't believe how all our great batsmen have crumbled.)

Really silly having back-to-back Ashes. They should be every two years to be looked forward to. As it is, it is a mid-table clash.

Even I can bat better than that (and I'm sure any of the strictly contestants could too )
