Apparently thieves stole items from the female celebrities and dancers' dressing room. How awful

What else do you expect in Blackpool? Absolute rough shithole of a place full of undesirables, and yes I've been there. Unfortunately.

This reminds me of Bruce likening Blackpool to Benidorm. The crowd didn't like it!

Compared with London, you must be joking!

Manchester even still has a few English people living there.

Not neccessarily Blackpool residents! It could be anyone from anywhere. How anyone managed to get into the changing rooms without being seen is strange, security was obviously pretty lax.

If you've a lot of people sharing the same dressing room then it's difficult to control the security. I bet there was a lot of coming and going.
It should have been down to the Tower administrators to provide adequate security as I bet the BBC were paying enough to hire the ballroom for a few days.

But it happens everywhere, but not considered as "newsworthy" as this would have been, so it rarely makes the press as it's just one more of the countless numbers of petty thefts..

I think this is a very nasty point of view however, as from the North myself Blackpool in my area does have a bad reputation for being rough and slightly on the dark side. Its no longer the place it was 60 years ago.

I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately this happens more regularly than you would think, to performing professionals. Often the venue takes no responsibility - even if the room is closed. The venue, in this case the Blackpool Tower, should be responsible for this. What an awful thing to happen to the performers.

I'm sure the residents of Blackpool will appreciate that nasty generalisation.

Of course they didn't, away from the British pubs and general tackiness Benidorm is actually quite nice

Blackpool no worse than anywhere else when it comes to thieving.

Unfortunately thieving is a common occurrence at dance events (most possibly at other sort of events as well?)

It's very difficult when you have to get changed and then leave all you clothes, bags, etc., while you go to the floor to dance.

I've lost count of the the things I've lost - have had to travel home in my competition dress on more than one occasion (Thank heavens for a car!) when my 'outdoor' clothes have gone walkies from the changing rooms.

Most towns and cities have their seamy side. I live in London and there are whole parts I would be afraid to be out alone in and public transport after 11pm is to be avoided. Blackpool sounds like a walk in the park lol

I think you are all taking the "wasteland" post a bit too seriously!

Though as a southerner with a Yorkshire wife it did take a bit of time to adjust to strangers talking to you just because that's what they do, and not because they wanted money

A bit sweeping, don't you think? I work there quite often, throughout the year, and like all larger towns, it has its good and bad areas. Personally, the places I go to in Blackpool have been nothing but friendly and the people have been quite lovely.

However, I do notice that during the summer months, there are more places to definitely avoid, but i don't think that's because of the locals, more to do with some of the visitors and their behaviour.

No being argumentative, but my experiences of Blackpool are definitely better than yours, seemingly!

Ah! Blackpool.

It was my first visit for several years in the seventies and my first ever experience of walking into a pub and being offered a pint of beer in a plastic glass. I said, "No thank you!" turned round and walked out.
