Hi everyone,
If I split one of the leads to my sky hd box and take one of the outlets to the Freesat connection on my tv then take the other back to the sky hd box will this work ?
Thanks in advance..... Ted

No. Or at least not if you mean a simple passive splitter with one F-type in to two F-types out.

Satellite is not like TV and cannot be split is such a simple manner. The reason is that the LNB on the dish is powered from the receiver. There are also extra control signals sent back up the cable to set the LNB into one of four possible reception modes.

If you use a simple splitter these power and control voltages/signals clash with each other. The only way it would work is if you could turn off these signals from one device. But this would limit what each device could watch. Both devices could only watch channels in the same reception mode. Which could cause problems if you were watching a programme on the TV in "mode 1" say and the Sky box was switched to "mode 3" half way through.

There are devices that can be used to split satellite signals properly. They basically use a LNB with four outputs each set to one of the four modes. The switch can have several outputs and detects the control signals fed back from the receiver connected to the output. Based on those it connects the output to the appropriate input. It can also connect multiple outputs to the same input as necessary.

If you already have SkyHD then the LNB on your dish will have four connections, two being used for your HD box.

As long as you don't have multiroom with a another HD or Sky+ box then all you need is another cable run up to the LNB and use one of the spare connections.

A Sky (or Freesat) box only needs two LNB feeds to give it the full range of options for recording. A + box can be made to work on a single LNB in a limited way.

So a four way LNB could conceivably feed a Sky/Freesat + box, a Sky/Freesat receive only box and a TV all at the same time.
